Photographer’s Note
If nature had eyes to turn upon us it would be woefully disappointed compared to the visual delights it unfailingly offers us on a daily basis....just think of the sensory imbalance in ocular pleasure:-)
This is one of my favorite whitewater sections for canoeing along the Jacques-Cartier river near Pont-Rouge...and it is also one of the most dangerous passes along the entire river.Appropriately named La Chaudiere(Boiler),this set of rapids looks harmless enough but the waters narrow into a menacing funnel behind these rocks and forms what every canoeist fears most---a "keeper hole" which can suck you down to the bottom of the river and hold you there much longer than you would like. When this river was used for floating logs, there were many drownings here as the "draveurs" worked to push the logs along when they got jammed. These were often men of tremendous strength but sadly lacking in swimming abilities.
Shot at 1/160 shutter speed with an AV of 8.The compensation was lowered -1/3.

This is a real good one. So sharp that we can almost feel the crisp autumn air. The composition is well balanced with the trees and sky in upper third, water in the middle, and rocks in the lower third. I also like the light in the left front and the darker area in the higher right section. Good idea to place your Minolta there.

Very good, with the beautiful red tree almost in line with the Minolta. Minolta will like it too I guess.

Great original shot Derek. It has a fun feel to it and also has good technic. I know this river and it's a great place to be. You have captured the beauty of the river in a good way. Interesting note as well.

Like the fact that the fast shutterspeed froze the water, adding the feel of speed. Tha tbit of red inj the back really helps to pull he eye into the scene.
