Montreal City Hall is located on 275 Rue Notre-Dame East Montréal, QC H2Y 1C6, Canada and it is just next to the Metro station Champs de Mars in Old Port of Monteal.
City Hall serves as the administrative headquarters for the city of Montréal and the mayor has his office here. Many areas are off-limits to the public, but visitors can register for a quick but insightful 15-minute tour, which takes place several times each weekday from May through October. From September to June, guided tours of city hall can be organized free of charge for group of eight (8) persons or more. Just make an appointment by calling 311 or completing the form.
The five-storey Montreal City Hall is the work of architects Henri-Maurice Perrault and Alexander Cowper Hutchison, and was built between 1872 and 1878 in the Second Empire style. It is also known as the Napoleon III style. The exterior is decorated with ornate balconies, grand turrets, and attractive mansard roofs, and is best appreciated in the evening, when the city lights the building with hundreds of bulbs. It's an awesome sight!
Inside the building, guests will find an abundance of
marble and plenty of bronze. The Hall of Honour is particularly striking and offers portraits of every mayor who ever held this office in Montréal. The hall boasts marble from Campagna, Italy; art deco lamps from Paris; and a magnificent French bronze and glass chandelier that weighs a metric ton City Hall, Montreal, Canada(about 2,200 pounds). Ceilings are hand-carved and the stained-glass windows are stunning. Unfortunately, It is said that Montréal's City Hall was less than 50 years old because it suffered a terrible fire in 1922. The interior was completely gutted but the exterior was spared, even though the roof was destroyed. The people of Montréal saw to it that the interior was restored in a timely manner and fashioned it in the style of the city administrative building in Tours.
Montréal's Hotel de Ville was thrust into the international limelight when French president Charles de Gaulle visited in 1967. It was at this time that he gave his famous "Vive le Québec Libre" (Long-live a Free Quebec) speech from the balcony of the building. It's said that de Gaulle was a huge hit with the people of Montréal but that the Canadian government wasn't very happy with his dissertation. His speech strained Canada's relationship with France for many years.

A perfectly exposed night time image with superb detail. I like the upward point of view and the reflection of the lights on the glistening roadway.

This is an imposing building and you caught it well in one frame which is not easy. The light combined with the exposure time give very sharp details of the architecture.
All the best for 2014

This building would look interesting at any time of the day, but at nighttime it is flooded with very attractive light that is spectacular and quite discreet at the same time. I like these mild tones of yellow, blue and pink. I also like the reflections in the wet street which increase the great nightly atmosphere. The sky has turned out a very nice dark grey. You composed and handled this very well and added an interesting note.

The reflections on the wet street are assets to the composition. Using a tripod and a shutter speed of 5 seconds is allowing me to see a double perspective of the architecture of the City Hall. It also has a special effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

You're capturing well this City Hall by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the classic City Hall with light-up as the castle in blue hour. It looks like profound appearance and elegant design, and to accept the influence of French architecture. And, it's interesting that it stands along the street with the loose slope.

A very beautiful shot of this classical building. It looks to me almost like a haunted house, but I think that is because I am not familiar with this style of building. You have made it look imposing and majestic, just as a city hall should look! A great night shot and a great capture.
All the best
