Photographer’s Note

Hi everyone.
Ice fishing.The fisherman first must drill(with a big power drill)a hole,then install his numerous lines that looks like a carabine with a string and hook.When a fish bites,the lines goes down and voila.On a regular basis,the fisherman use a strainer to remove the forming ice in his holes.2 hands and 20 lines,not bad.Today was not a good day,the fisherman told me,but at least,I am outside,and then we spoke about photography.
I tried some vignetting in the corners,I like the effect as I found it keeps our eyes focused on the fishing line.Tell me what you think.

Bonjour Charles,

Un sujet très intéressant pour cette photo de pêche sur glace avec une belle répétition de ces petites lignes rouges. Je ne crois pas cependant que le vignettage ajoute à la photo, mon premier coup d'oeil a trouvé ça plustôt bizarre. Aussi, il aurait été intéressant de voir le bas de la première ligne et un ciel moins important. La profondeur de champ est excellente et nous donne un grand niveau de détail.

Hi Charles. I think the vignetting does help push our eyes towards the center. This is a nice take of an activity we don't see much on TE. The red sure adds a lot of useful color. Nice shot Charles.

Quite an interesting shot, with good notes also. Vignetting looked good here, as you wanted. The picture is a bit tilted, but it's nice picture anyway.

La photo est bonne, l'alignement bien placé. Interessant ce mode de pêche à 20 lignes et deux mains, ca doit bouger beaucoup quand cela mord partout à la fois..

Bonjour Charles,
une vue d'une coutume ou plutot d'une façon d'opérer pas commune sur le continent Européen, peut être en Finlande :-).
Chouette idée que de nous montrer cela au travers d'une composition simple.

C'est vrai que le vignetage permet de se focaliser sur le sujet, je trouve cette photo tres interessante, car je n'imaginais pas cette technique de peche sur glace.

J'aime bien cette presentation ca fait un peu vieux film couleur tourne avec la camera familiale dans les annees 70. La scene est sympa et bien exposee mais aurait gagne je pense a s'enrichir d'un sympathique Canadian fisherman...

A very good shot here with a good piece of information. This type of fishing I didn't know about, and is interesting to see how it's done. The vignetting is ok, but not everyone likes it. I don't mind it though, it looks pretty good to me. Nice work.

Thanks for your picture and information because it's the first time that I see this ice fishing tecnique. I like the way you captured and composed this picture. It reminds me a previous recent post that I did with a simulation of a periscope view to the sea. I like the enquadrement, the light and colors of this nicely done composition.

Hi Charles, Without reading your notes, there is no way for me to guess what are those colorful rudders about. I think ice fishing can be fun and it also looses some of "doing nothing" fishing fun.
Nice capture of the special fishing scene. I would suggest to crop this picture to get ride of the dark corners. Nice perspective view and nice and informative shot.

Hi Charles,
Seems like you have been pretty active on the TE lately. I must say that it is heartening to see your photos of the winters, because in the part of Canada that I am living there has really been no winters this year so far ... I hav'nt even taken out my good winter jacket out yet and I wonder if I will have to do it this winters ... we can still see the grass in Mississauga ... yes it has been this warm.
Anyways I do like this photo and wanted to thank you for sharing this one and also for your very informative note

PS: we did had two minor snow storms but than the temperatures got pretty high and snow cover vanished rather quickly

Hi Charles,
An intriguing shot with good clarity and contrast. I might have cropped somewhat off the left side so as to move in the devices and highlight them more. And is it my monitor or is the horizon tilted slightly? But I like the overall effect. The vignetting also works well. Well captured, Charles.

Belle prise Charles, effet que j'ai tenté également récemment, les photos d'hivers semblent plus appropriées pour ceci. Le paysage est très bien derrière avec les rochers et la vue sur le lac. Juste un petit oubli du côté du tilt !! Bien vu.

J'aime aussi l'effet créé dans les coins. C'est une très bonne idée de représenter la pêche hivernale, que beaucoup de gens ne connaissent pas, ou pas assez bien. Vous représentez très bien le Québec dans vos photos. J'ajouterais aussi que l'effet créé dans les coins, combiné avec le noir et blanc, donne à une photo un air très ancien, qui est parfois agréable.

Un bon point de vue de ces lignes à pêche, la blancheur de la neige et glace rehausse les couleurs de la photo. La photo a une bonne profondeur de champs et de belles couleurs.
