| I almost stepped on this frog, then was struck, as often before, by the brilliant colours and textures of its skin. I went closer and closer, photographing as I went until I was about 2cm away. It never blinked once, but finally hopped away. I have cropped this and enlarged it to about the max I think I can get away with. Then a bit of sharpening. I think this guy is the common Canadian bullfrog - rana catesbyiana. |

Very nice study of his face, the eyes are especially good, nose is a litle soft in focus. I find that I have to use single point metering for this sort of shot to fool the camera into taking the front of the object, otherwise it tends to focus behind the front giving a soft feel to it.

Good work. The gold colours almost look like they are painted, I don't think I have ever been this close to a frog.
Is it an old frog? I ask because he has one grey hair ;-)
Hola John: The frogs don't really belong to the species of animals that I prefer to have close or to see. However, I am impressed with the approach that you made with this frog, this is super an approach, the details of their eyes are very good, I have a metal frog here in my desk and I see their eyes and I see the frog of your picture and here appreciation that texture of the lids is surprising as well as the nasal graves, the green-yellow-golden tone makes of this frog a pleasant animal. Saludos Cordiales. Happy weekend. *Ninfa Urania*
I like the details in his eyes! The colors are great in this. The one blade of grass over his nose is a little distracting, but I doubt you'd gotten ANY picture of him had you tried to do anything about that before clicking, LOL! :)

Hi John!
This I like very much.
It is soft but still a good macro.
I really miss nature pics. Too much office lately.
Thanks!
K.
You have some really nice shots in your gallery John. In this one, I was wondering how you could get this close to the frog without scaring it away. Just as I wonder how those amazing wildlife films on NGC are shot. Pretty neat work here. Though I feel it could do with a bit more sharpening.
