As we passed this Bistro, I noticed the gull already waiting for handouts, and the jogger peering into the restaurant -- perhaps hoping that this summertime spot would already be open? Sadly for both of them, there was not yet any food to be had.
The Boardwalk Pub is much busier when summer begins, for it is situated at the edge of Ashbridge's Bay Park, part of the park system on the Toronto shores of Lake Ontario.
The Park was named after Sarah Ashbridge, a Quaker widow and United Empire Loyalist from Philadelphia who settled here in 1793. The marshes in the bay and lower Don Valley surrounding the Ashbridge's farm were a very important habitat for waterfowl, including loons, wild geese, and wild swans. The bay itself originally extended from Cherry Street to Woodbine Avenue although lake filling for industrial uses has claimed most of the marshlands. In 1972, a waterfront park was developed for public recreation purposes and officially opened in 1977.

Wonderful clear bright colors and sharp details to these two establishments that will when open make jogging necessary after all the extra calories they dispense. On the other hand what fun is life without a few calories.

this pub is coloured like a easter egg. Very nice, good light and sharpness. The jogger and the gull give the necessary life.

i guess i would go fot the Burger Joint. *g*
looks like you´re more outside than packing, silke! :-)
wonderful and colorful composition with many nice details.
i hope the jogger did not want to stop for a burger there.
well seen & captured, thor.

Interesting combination of western style architecture and modern commercialism. The jogger is a funny detail waking ideas of desperate nedd for a quick burger. I guess roadside eateries around the world would make an interesting theme.

At least the snow is gone..!
Seems like a nice place, with a variety of offerings in the consumption department...
Nice framing with some elements of life, good colours!

Hello Silke. An original Pub, - and with the exception of the current man so deserted. Therefore the well selected title. But spring began straight only. Very infortmativ also the text. Best regards, Wolfgang.
P.S. I hope that it pleases you after your removal in the new city well.

Hi Silke. Another fine building shot, very colourful and sharp. There are some delightful colours shown here. Inclusion of the walker was a judicious decision. Well done!

I have seen it's Ontario but for me a pint of "Laurentide" will be fine if it has not been bought by Molson in the past 15 years... and I prefer by far the right entrance to walk in, unlike the rushing guy. a nice scene of your neighbourhood where you might want to crop some sky to concentrate attention on the actual subject
Have a nice day JY

Colorful place to have a beer. POV showing many sides at once +++

You've got to love the cheesiness of this establishment, with it's faux Wild West wooden architecture.
Your composition is good, and the emptiness and cold, rather muted colours, emphasise the quiet, out of season feel.
Good work Silke.

Everybody is becoming a little bit anxious, wating for the summer. You found a very original way to show this feeling. Simple but great composition and beautiful colours.

I like colors and compositions very much. take care.

This is a view that is almost on the verge of being stereotypical: "Burger Joint" ?
Since I was little, people around my age were brought up to American movies. So "The Burger Joint" is almost pulled out of our young impressions of America :D
The photo here looks good and the composition is ok, but why cut the bottom of the photo just like you have done here?
Ok so it's just the ground, but what more features do you have in the sky? That is just my point of view...
parbo (11092) 2007-04-08 13:19
You very well merged your photo with a wonderful section of daily life there. I can imagine how it can give well relax to sitting and passing time there. Your capture is wonderful while a runner adding life to your frame. Congratulations.
Happy Easter to you and your family,

I think we are ALL waiting for summer or at least spring!!
Interesting building, looks like it could be hopping in the summer months! TFS

While you are still waiting for summer, its blowing hot in our part of the world with the mercury level already climbing past 40 C. Nice post of the joint with a note to explain what it is about. You have keen eyes to put the gull and the jogger into context.
With Greetings from India

Great composition with the two pointed rooftops in opposite directions with the name centered. I particularly like the yellow and brown stripes at the 'Burger Joint' end. Good colors, light and contrast. Very nicely done! Best wishes,

"Waiting for Summer" = W4S , which is also "Waiting for Silke" ...
It's been TWO whole months since *U* moved to new quarters...
Meanwhile TrekEarth has become TrekDearth as fas as the Lady-of-the-Lens is concerned.., not?
You have managed a nice shot here, what with the impatient speedwalker and all. Despite the fact that the place is cluttered with signs you have captured a good shot, with a great theme. That is hard to do! So BRAVO!
Now we are back to W4S (2) ... ;)
Royaldevon (24312) 2007-06-08 13:41
Lovely strong, clear colours. Good detail and interesting shapes created by the buildings. The sharp focus makes it special.
pedroseco (198) 2007-06-10 18:11
What a colorful building you captured! I like the colors, and the pov. Excelent composition as well. The man running in the middle of the photo gives it somewhat a human feeling to what almost looks like a cafe from a cartoon!
mvdisco (17502) 2007-06-16 9:57
Beautiful view of the boardwalk Pub nice picture colors, very sharp and clear, nice composition. Thank for sharing, well done.
