Isn't he just adorable! I love his expression. I couldn't help myself but to take this photo while he was scratching under his arm! This was taken at the Toronto Zoo. I believe it is the first time our zoo has ever had this animal because I've never seen it before (and I've been to the zoo a million times!).
This is a Matschie's Tree Kangaroo. Tree kangaroos are thought to have evolved from other kangaroos, which in turn evolved from possum-like creatures. As to why tree-kangaroos decided to return to the trees like their possum-ancestors, no one knows!
They are mainly leaf-eaters, and occasionally eat fruits or flowers. They are mainly nocturnal, but do also move around during the day. The size of an average adult is about 20 - 32 inches, and weighting 15-17 pounds and their approximate life span is 14 years.
Matschie's tree kangaroos are arboreal, meaning they live in trees, and spend little time on the ground. They are solitary creatures and come together only to mate. The males require a large territory that will overlap several of the females' smaller territories. They sleep for 60% of their lives, curled up in the nearest tree, and feed during the day.
**Post Pro - Cropped out some of the bottom. AutoLevels, and used the dodge tool a bit under his arm.

Très bonne photo, j’aime bien les couleurs. La profondeur de champs est bien réussie. Le moment de la prise est bien synchronisé et son expression est très rigolote. Le tree kangaroo aurait-il des puces pour ce gratter ainsi…
Very nice shot.

Interesting note, and a very nice picture. Sometimes, I'd like to live like that.

Hilariously funny facial expression on this chap, sharp capture except the motion blur on the foot showing the action. A minor problem with overbright background top right, but not a big issue here.

Très belle expression chez cet animal. Les couleurs sont bien jolies et la profondeur de champs est au point. Très bien vu.
