Having children makes one no more a parent than having a camera makes you a photographer.
There is more on the issue than you might think.
Being a lousy photographer, your only excuse is the poor capabilities of your camera. Being a lousy parent you find a comfort declaring, that your child is incapable of being a good child.
In both cases we are deadly wrong and plainly stupid.
The rest of the society has to learn yet, on: How to deal with both mental cases of these great inadequacies.
I know. I'm both, myself.

good photo :-) I would also say: a good psychological "multiple" portrait (even though I know your ideas concerning what is a "portrait as such" and what is not!).
But I don't like it that you cropped the top of the image way too tight! what's happened to the boy's head? :-) anyway, it's just MHO.
I like this semi-B&W shot... with a tint of another colour.
Oh yes, this is really so true! ->"Having children makes one no more a parent than having a camera makes you a photographer".

the child's look is perfect...for a perfect crime to perpetrate one day toward his brand new brother/sister...and he also seems to already wear one of those prisoner's uniform....poor little, brand new sister/brother...welcome back George.

Five subjects looking in five different directions..bound by a single story, a single topic of conversation.

ah, maybe that's why so many people keep on buying equipment - they hope to get out of the lousiness of their vision..?
as you said, kids are always camera-ready - this boy in the striped pyjamas definitely was. undecipherable look? pissed-off attitude? or maybe just tired of being there?
beats me. but I love his face.
