Photographer’s Note

One member was not really satisfied with the less exlanation (but he was right with his critique). So some few words more. First the purpose of the picture was to show the pier at the Lake Superior in Thunder Bay. It´s a very quiete place next to Thunder Bay. I think the pier is not used by ship. The rock formation you can see in the back is called the sleeping giant (behind the ship). For those who want to know more, here is the legend of the sleeping giant:
The legend of the Sleeping Giant
An Ojibway legend tells the story of the formation of the Sleeping Giant. In one version, Nanabijou, the spirit of the deep sea water, showed the Ojibway a mine were silver could be found as reward for their peacful, spiritual way of live. But, he said, if anyone should ever tell the white people of it´s source, they would forever be turned to stone.
Upon seeing the fine articles and jewelery made of silver, the Sioux, the Ojibway´s historical enemy, sought to discover the metal´s origin. When ever torture failed to reveal the secret, the Sioux decided to send a man in disguise to live as an Ojibway. Eventually, he was led to the mine. On his way back to his people, the Sioux stopped at a white men´s encampment. The white men were enthralled upon seeing the silver sample he had with him. After beeing plied with alcohol, the Sioux agreed to take several of the men by canoe to the mine. A great storm came up , drowning everyone but the Sioux, whose canoe the Ojibway later found floationg around aimlessly. When the weather cleared , the open bay had been partially blocked by a huge rock formation, and the Ojibway knew that Nanabijou´s words had come to be. (The legend is from the Lonely Planet Travel Guide)
