[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The development of the water-pumping windmill was perhaps the most important factor in allowing the farming and ranching of vast areas of North America which were otherwise lacking readily accessible water. Additionally, they contributed to the expansion of rail transport systems throughout the world by pumping water from wells to supply the needs of steam locomotives. They are still used today in some areas of the world where a connection to electric power lines is not a realistic option and are making a comeback thanks to the increase of energy prices and the expense of replacing electric pumps.
The multi-bladed wind turbine on top of an open tower made of wood or steel was, for many years, a fixture of the landscape throughout rural America. These mills, made by a variety of manufacturers, featured a large number of blades so that they would turn slowly with considerable force in low winds and be self regulating in high winds.

Hi Lisa, beautiful windmill with splendid light, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Silke,

A good POV of the windmill, the photo has a good composition, sharpness and nice colors. Have a good weekend.

Pierre

Hi Silke,
A sharp and striking photo, the blue sky compliment with the rest, nice contrast.Very original shot this

I like the simplicity of your composition here Silke, helped a lot by the cloudless blue sky.
The sunlight on the blades really lifts the whole image, although I think it would have had even more impact if you'd taken it earlier (or later) when more of the windmill was in the light.
The off-centre framing works well, although personally I'd have gone further and left even more space to the left of the windmill.
It's well taken though Silke, good work.

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Silke,
The pov is very good, just as the composition with only the blades on it. It is however a bit soft on the light, bit more contrast and sun on the blades would make it much more powerfull.
But nevertheless a good image, like your pov and the framing a bit off center a lot.
Regards, Henk

Hello Silke,
Nice flashback in image and words!
And the windmills are for sure coming back, maybe in this design but also in the 2007 version!
Well composed image with good details, interesting light!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Silke,
this is a portrait of a windmill. Simple and good coloured background, light over parts, all just like a portrait. I like it, the composition (upview and with the right distance to the center) is really good. This one should have a small simple frame I think.

Hi Silke
I like your composition, quite simple one in fact set against the blue sky, good contrast.
The only negative, small one,is I will have prefered more light on the pales.Personal taste, but I feel that the punch will have been better.
Very pleasing image.

Hi Silke,
interesting construction and informations. Good composition and WS. Well done photo.

Hi Silke,
A photo that reminds me there are interesting things to try out with these windmills, the gradual warming of yours by the sun is very nice, and the framing just right.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hello Silke. You selected this time a graphically working motive. The impeller represents the history of the wind force use. For me the photo is noteworthy by the immaculately blue sky and the light on the rotor blades. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Minimalist but interesting thanks to the light you got there. Cool, soft, lovely... A good warm abstraction depsite the blue ocean...

Bonsoir Silke,

Jean-Pierre

Hi Silke!

That's the magic of simplicity! Excellent composition and very nice light managment, with this "heavy" and "warm" colours. Congratulations!

Oooooeeee. Splendid picture. I love the way the shadows of the blades at the top give even more dimension to each other. Great clarity of the mechanics.
Crisp and clear image against that blue sky.

Hello Silke,
Seems like we are both suffering from the carpal tunnel syndrome. Hope you get well soon. Swimming helps in my case. I like this photo very much primarily for the simple off-center composition. Contrast between the blades and fine exposure control holding that nice blue in the backdrop complete this excellent image. Regards,
Hakan

Hi Silke,
Excellent simple shot of this stell grey windmill contrasting so beautifully with the deep blue sky. Very sharp detail and wonderful shadows to this fine image.
