Photographer's Note

It is a cold clear evening in Ottawa tonight and a thin layer of ice is already covering the Rideau Canal. Once the ice is 30cm thick the canal will open to skaters. The National Capital Commission puts a number of temporary shelters on the canal for the skaters to change out of their boots and even to refuel with a cup of hot chocolate or apple cider. There is also a hut were you can purchase a "Beaver Tail" which is an iconic Canadian pastry treat.
