Photographer’s Note
Nightime shot of downtown Ottawa looking out towards the river. Whilst probably not the most imaginative light trails shot, I wanted to try and capture the view from my 21st floor hotel room so I set my tripod up on the balcony late one night and took this 5min (ish) exposure.
I probably could have been more creative and gone out onto the street, but it was -25 deg celsius, so I opted for waiting in my hotel room instead!
I studied this a bit before hand, and because of the traffic light sequences decided I needed to use a quite a long exposure to get a good mix of red and white light trails without too many stationary or ghosted cars, so I thought I'd just leave it out there for a while!
In addition to the light trails, I really like the effect on the tower block and the variation shown in the lights from the windows.
What do you think?
Cheers
Simon

Hi Simon,
I like the high vantage point for this shot. The long shutter speed does cool things to the movement and I enjoy the sparkle of the lights from the narrow aperture.
Cheers!

Great capture! I like the contrast of colors and the square frame.
