Photographer’s Note

Peggy's Cove Light
Nova Scotia, Ontario

I spent several hours here near sunset, absolutely enthralled with the changing light. It was truly the "magic hour". Because it was early in the season, few tourists were about and for a while, it was just me, the rocks, and the lighthouse. A wonderful memory.

Peggy's Cove is a tiny, picturesque fishing village of about 50 year-round residents. The lighthouse is considered to be among the most photographed in the world. It has served as a post office (open in summer only) since 1972; visitors can mail their postcards inside the lower level of the lighthouse. It is the only combination lighthouse/post office in North America. There is a legend concerning a ghost named Peggy, who supposedly died in a shipwreck and washed ashore near the rocks here.
