The Icebergs are here
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
“The Icebergs are here” is the name of this photo taken just outside St. John’s harbor in Cuckholds Cove Road. When the fog finely lifted after all week, these beautiful icebergs were close by. There are some 500 heading our way, possibly the result of climate change and global warming. Only about 1/10 of the iceberg is above surface and 9/10 below. This young man gave some perspective to their actual size.
During the news, it mention there I spur this close by and I immediately got in the car and drove to this wonderful place called Cuckholds Cove Road. This is only one of the four icebergs close by. It was quickly getting dark and I had the issue with an ISO of 800.
I must return tomorrow in daylight they get some more shots.
I’m sending this to my daughter in Edmonton and I hope she likes it? |

Hi Jim
Good shot that is well exposed considering the light. I like this composition with the diagonal line of the shore complimenting the same line in the berg.

Great photo of this iceberg as it passes by. I like the mood of this photo, from the overcast sky. While the person gives some nice scale to the photo, I would have preferred to see them at the top of the hill further to the right of the iceberg.
Regards,
David

Hi Jim, so is this the sign of spring in Newfoundland? I like it, I've never seen an iceberg. This is a big one, though I guess that's relative. I didn't see the man in the thumbnail, but I see him now, and this all of a sudden looks a lot larger than it did in the thumbnail. This guy gives it scale. There are nice parallel lines seen between the iceberg and land, with great contrasts in colour. The colour on land is very good, very rich looking. I like too how you show the harbour, with decreasing visibility with the fog, until we just barely see land. All very good.
Thanks, John
