We made a quick ferry trip to Fogo Island one afternoon. Fogo is part of the Change Island group located off the north central coast of Newfoundland. This is a scan from a slide shot with Velvia so saturation required here. The buildings are part of the town of Fogo and the white patches are icebergs. June is the best month to visit for whales, birds and bergs.

Awesome. Went on vacation to Nova Scotia last year and I really wanted to take the extra time to go up to Newfoundland, but my girlfriend vetoed the idea. This little town reminds me of my shot of Charlos Cove...a VERY small village on the eastern shore of NS a few hours north of Halifax...I think I posted the shot on TE actually.

I like photos like this that make me want to just BE there...sitting on that little grassy spot...drinking some coffee....relaxing...

The saturation is OK I guess...maybe just very slightly less? Then again, I know nothing about scanning slides....

update: yep, Charlos Cove was my first TE posting...you've now inspired me to go back and re photoshop the original...now that i've sort of improved my PS skills of course... : )

Hello Phil! Icebergs ... how exciting! It can't get any greener, this grass has a green that I have never seen before. And I find it especially nice with these dark blue waters, what a perfect match. Lovely little fishing village and I like that you have not all of it in it but left a little space so that we can see the tiny icebergs back there floating around. I have only landed in Newfoundland on my way to Halifax, and I was really surprised that almost everybody left the plane and we flew to Halifax almost alone. Obviously many people work in the oil industry coming over from England. We saw some icebergs during the landing procedure and the pilot was excited as much as we were and I found that really sweet of him that he shared the little extras with us. Very nice work, I like it. Barbara.

Hola Phil,
Bello paisaje con ese intenso color azul oscuro del mar que contrasta muy bien con el verde de la hierba.
Un tranquilo lugar muy agradable.
Excelente profundidad y detalles.
Cordialmente
Charo

A very pretty little village in a beautiful setting! Sure is nice to see GREEN!!! I'm very anxious for spring to arrive. The colors and sharpness are excellent. TFS

Hi Phil,
The grass is always greener ... in Newfoundland, I know now.
It makes a beautiful contrast with the dark blue of the ocean and the light blue of the sky.
Very good composition with the houses on the peninsule with water on the foreground and on the background.
Greetings from Belgium, Paul

Hi Phil,
icebergs in june?? I can't begin to imagine how North that must be. For us in Madrid 0ºC is cold... it's out of my exeperience completely. The shot is fantastic, the greens and blues jump out of the frame. The bouldings being so white are, maybe, a little overexposed. Or is it just from the scan?
TFS, Rafa.

Hi Phil,
good composition and fine landscape. The colours are a bit harsh. Maybe you could have added some yellow.
Regards, Gerrit

Hi Phil,
Looks like a place I'd love to visit and photograph. The greens are very attractive as contrasted against the deep blue sea. Well done and TFS. Gerald

Hi Phil,
Wow you were way out on the Northeastern Coast to capture this lovely fishing village. The lush green foreground contrast sharply with the vivid blue sea that highligths the icebergs as it meets the lovely pale blue sky horizon.
Regards, Tom

Hi Phil. I was going to comment on the incredible green of the grass, but then i read your reply to Barbara. So instead I'll say that the blue of the sea is amazing instead. Everything stands out so sharply against it. Reminds me of velvet paintings (if it wasn't for the sky.) Excellent details.I hope you saw the whales. Regards. Klaudio.

Hi Phil,
Very nice scenery, colors and very good POV.
Well done.
Have a nice day.

Hi Phil,
I feel the saturation is a bit on the higher side here. I understand that it might be because of the scanning problems. Lovely composition and POV, overall a very good shot.
Regards,
Shaeri

Hi, Phil -

Like Shaeri, I think there is some over-saturation here; this is easily correctable with the Hue/Saturation tool (and probably others), but since you didn't allow workshops, I can't show you what I did.

Other than that, it's a nice composition. The icebergs, once I realized what they are, are a nice touch.

Dan

Phil,
this is probably one of the best scanning shots that I saw so far at TE. I never ever would have guessed that this here is a scanned one, but surely that it is a velvia. Full contrast and saturated colors - velvia at its best! If it wouldn't be in the digital era I certainly would be using velvia every time.
Peter

Hi Phil,
A nice seaside landscape and a good scan, the strong contrasts urged me to check out the film used, of course Velvia, what else ?
Have a nice day jY

Hello Phil
Interesting contrasts. The dark blue water is in harmony with the lush green grass and the vivid blue sky. Charming little village on the right. Well done!
Best regards
Denis!

Hi Phil,
in my opinion you did an outstanding job, both at the time of shooting and in PP.
I saw it on the thumbnail and I thought... VELVIA!
This is a magnificent view, enriched by brilliant, deep colors and a wonderfully comprehensive POV. Top Notch!
I flew so many times over New Foundland and never actually set foot on it... it sure looks like a paradise for photographers.
Cheers, buddy!
Have a great day,
Fulvio.
