This scene compliments my last photo, showing the colored homes scattered all around the old Downtown St. John's area.
Its taken from across the harbour with my tele lens. Another cultural feature in this photo is the large blue ship. The Harbour is always full of large tanker ships, cargo ships, fishing vessels, you name it...and you will mainly see boats from Russia, Denmark, Norway...I think this is a Danish vessel?
Its a long weekend here in Vancouver, and of course its raining...hope you have better weather in your city!

Hello Craig ,
The city feels not as picturesque than in your previous post . May be the modern buildings , here ... Anyway , this is a very interesting picture , well framed and composed , with many details to see .
Many rain in Vancouver , but dryness in large parts of western Europa !

Although the houses look like boxes, they are lovely with colourful walls and the occupants sure have a wonderful view of the harbour or waterway.

Very nice capture of the seaport village. I do love the color of those houses. Good dof with sharp details. Wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.
I think Maersk line is U.S., remember Maersk Alabama that was hijacked and the captain was rescued by the U.S. Navy Seal?

WOW! What a colored image and a perfect composition in which you had a great eye in the capture of the ship under the colored houses.
The light is perfect in this case and it give a great value to the magnificent colors.
Congratulations and TFS, have a great Sunday.
A dear hug

A pleasant composition and obviously a great scene to capture. Works well despite the tight framing. The picture reminds me of my own The red giant and Bryggen Nice lighting and wonderful contrast between the ship and the colourful houses that are clinging to the hillside. Love to watch scenes like this. Perhaps you know already: Maersk is a Danish company. Have your self a nice weekend.
Best regards, Erling

Almost like a "lego" constraction!
Maersk is a major Danish forwarding company and this one is one of their vessels.
TFS and best regards

Ciao dear Craig,
impressive clarity, but also pleasant colors, as in a palette of a painter. The beautiful color of the ship contributes to increasing the interest for this splendid photo, captured in a really perfect way. Congratulations!
Ciao, have a nice Sunday!

Budapestman (82620) 2011-05-21 14:51
what a view, the composition of the photo is very spectacular, I like the vibrant colours and the rich sight, the POV is very attractive too, superb shot, Tfs! Have a nice weekend!

This set of beautiful homes, perfect sharpness and image quality, the colors are fantastic.
compliments a beautiful composition.
josepmarin (57069) 2011-05-22 3:18
you have used a closed angle that works very well in order to catch the graphism of the colored houses and its interesting cubic geometry.
The blue ship in foreround adds a good chromatic complement to the composition.
A good light, and very well-saturated colors, in this beautiful photo.
In Barcelona we have a clean and sunny day, 25ºC.
Friendly regards, and good sunday,
gildasjan (40032) 2011-05-22 4:29
CLODO (27498) 2011-05-22 5:16
interesting picture with so many rectangles and very srtong colors. It seems it's a puppet town!
Royaldevon (23410) 2011-05-22 7:11
No, it's raining here, too, Craig, and has been for over a week. We had an exceptionally dry and sunny April, to be followed by a May, which has been unseaonally cold and will have precipitated enough water to more then fill every reservoir in the country!!!
Your photograph doesn't give the impression of being rainy. It is quite bright and the sky is showing blue. The vivid, blue ship, with its angular shape, fits well into the environment of rectangular buildings, with rectangular windows. It links well with the tall building to the left, giving a nice right angled division of thirds. Nice sharpness and dof, especially with a telephoto lens.
Have a good day,

A spectacular composition of shapes and colors. Chaotic at the first sight but well ballanced and well presented. Ypu're lucky to be in a port area, my hometown is about 500 km from the seaside.
Have a nice week.

Truly attractive picture!
Special regards to all those colors in every single element of that view!
Sharpness, exposure, chosen pov, horizontal format, black borders and composition are all excellent too!
TFS - congrats,

timecapturer (40248) 2011-05-23 6:01
an intriguing composition, clever positioning of the ship as the strong diagonal of the bow is in stark contrast to all the surrounding horizontal and vertical lines and shapes. Perfect clarity and a striking contrast of colours.
Regards - Brian

I like how this interesting ship blends in with the so called colored boxes, making a beautiful composition. Good work, congratulations!
Nard (6915) 2011-05-25 3:26
Amazing composition, the boat seems to be cut and the building put on it. Everything seems very close and tight and we can see a lot of details.
francio64 (38256) 2011-05-28 14:02
Well done and TFS!
mkamionka (28031) 2011-05-30 8:11
very pleasant eye-catching colors and an original composition.
The fragment of the ship goes well with the houses and seems to be part of the landscape.
Very nice catch,
