Photographer’s Note
aka "Going to go Fishing..."
I's the b'y that builds the boat
And I's the b'y that sails her
I's the b'y that catches the fish
And takes them home to Lizer.
More shots from my 2005 trip to Newfoundland.
The small port of Cox's Cove was bustling with activity. The local fishermen were getting their boats ready for another season. Each boat has its registration or fishing license clearly marked on the bow. The boats are lined up on the slips waiting to go fishing... Their colours against the blue water and sky were almost Mediterranean.
Cox's Cove is at the mouth of the Humber River.
In 1955 and in 1977 it experienced serious flooding.
PS "I's The B'y" (also I'se The Bye) is a traditional Newfoundland folk song/ballad.

Hi Jay,
I like the composition here, it,s quite unusual and works. The boat ponting to the sky justify the blue space on the top of your composition, the square format works. Nice contrasting colors.
Cheers,
Flavia

Good strong colours and the perfect weather in the BG: that clear sky promises not storms for a few hours at least :)

AH!! You've done it again!! Provided a photo that is both beautifully composed and given a background that denies fading away into "nothingness".....

Hi Jay. Very good composition of this sea cove view. The two strong elements are the boats with bright orange. Good DOF and clarity throughout. The boats are particularly sharp. Good work. Murray.

Hi Jay,
Great comp and pov in this photo and fantastic colours specially the bright red and the deep blue. You're right it could be easily a photo from Algarve :) Have you fished something for dinner?
Friendly,
Aida

Hello Jay,
Good colour contrast!
The lines of the boats adds dynamics, well framed scenery telling the story... do you really need a licence to fish from tiny boats like that?
Greetings,

Beautiful composition, with these bright red boats on the magnificent blues of the lake, hills and sky.
I thought the sky could be cropped though; so I am sending a WS. I hope it's all right.
Have a good weekend.

Hi Jay - less is more eh? A crop would definitely help in this case, the empty sky is too generous, but what lies below it is a delight.
Thanks for the workshops from last week, I've had a bad week at work and couldn't respond until today.
