Angela Lansbury's twelve-year meal ticket, 2 April 2005

Author: didi-5 from United Kingdom

After a stint as Miss Marple on screen, former movie star Angela Lansbury was a dead-cert for this watchable but ridiculous murder mystery series. She plays Jessica Fletcher, a crime writer and amateur sleuth who solves more crimes than the cops - but she almost always knows the victim and/or the main suspect.

Lansbury is good although the scripts were increasingly trite and the solutions became blindingly obvious. If there is a file of papers, Jessica will steal it. If times don't tally, Jessica will be on the trail quicker than a bloodhound. Ron Masak played long-suffering Sheriff Metzger for most of the run, always being shown up by Jessica's dogged insistence that every decision he makes is wrong. William Windom played her doctor friend, Seth Hazlett, from series 2, adding some comedy value, but he really was slumming it in this series.

Cabot Cove becomes the US murder capital - everyone who lunches with Jessica, talks to her on the telephone, or even bumps into her in the street might end up as a murder victim. This ranges from movie stars to drug smugglers, to gossipy biography writers and theatricals, to high-flying business men and willowy models. It was joked "Don't go to Cabbot Cove, the only one left alive is Miss Fletcher and the sherriff."

In the tradition of 'Columbo' and other US crime series, 'Murder She Wrote' doesn't tax the brain and - amazingly - had enough material to replay pretty much the same episode for twelve years and some feature length specials. When it ended in 1996 we even missed it. A bit.

Hi Tom,
A great note....I really enjoyed reading it! I remember the series well as a boy and the fact I would be on the edge of my seat to quess who the baddy was.I like the scene....lovely colours and light.I may have stepped in a touch more so as to emphasis the name more.Great stuff!
Regards, David

Hello Tom
I really like this high quality picture. The details and the colours are stunning. I like the angle you took the vivid red boat. Well done Tom!
Best regards
Denis!

Hi Tom
Great detail in your picture! Very colorful and lightful! Nice point of view.
Cheers

Hi Tom,
A good composition and pov here with well saturated colors. I like the strong red color on the boat and for some odd reason, the blue barrel on the right catches my attention. Well seen and presented. TFS. Gerald

Hello Tom,
excellent sharpness and depth of field, superb vivid colors and very nice composition.
Angela

Hello Tom,
I didn't think that the "Murder She Wrote" series was that bad. Sure, the ridiculous plots were the laughing stock of real crime solvers but it had a funky sense of charm and elegance to it. I am a big Angela Lansbury fan and I enjoyed this series for the sheer sense of fun it had. (I also liked "Gilligan's Island" so this must not be a good indicator for my tastes in tv shows). Your photo is razor sharp as usual and I like this clever composition of yours. Your notes are great.
Stan

Hi Tom,

Hi Tom,

Last year I read somewhere that; Popular mystery writer Jessica Fletcher has been charged with 689 homicides previously declared solved. F.B.I claims that she must classified as a serial killer since Cabot Cove was similar in size to nearby, violence-free town, but suffered dozens of bloody murders in less than a decade. "It was just too much of a coincidence to ignore.". said one of the FBI profiler. :)

I like your shot with sharp contrasts between sea and boat. Adding part of pier at right is completing your view very nicely.

Friendly Regards,

Ertugrul

Hola Tom,
Una composición cerrada para mostrar este barco y el azul intenso del agua que contrasta muy bien con el mismo. Excelentes colores con muy buena profundidad y resolución.
Cordialmente
Charo

Hi Tom,a little different from your usual shots in that here the range of field is much narrower.I like it,the colours are wonderful. We can see the texture of the water so clearly.I like the composition very much.
Your notes are interesting,'Murder she wrote 'is still shown on British TV, often as an afternoon 'filler'.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi Tom
Great write up. The light here is really nice and the orange boat really pops out at us.I hope you didn't step aboard as you might risk becoming a murder victim.
Phil

Hi Tom
ce barteau qui semble jouer à cache cache avec le quai donne une superbe photo plein de couleurs et de vie, belle composition, bien vu.

Hi Tom
Wonderful shot with good sharpness of details. The colors are vivids and interesting textures of this fence wood on the right. The reflections are splendid. Good POV and framing. Excellent work. Best Regards, Consuelo

Hi Tom,
The bright red boat against the blue sea grabbed me from the thumbnail. I wonder how this would have looked shot in vertical format although the horizontal framing is quite effective too. GREAT note, very funny and well-written.
HLJ,

Beautiful, Tom!
I love the composition with just the prow of the boat sticking out from behind those pilings and being able to read the name. The color and light is awesome in this shot and the details are spectacular. Wow, this is a great shot!! Thanks and warmest regards,
Shelly

Ola amigo
Que belo detalhe deste barco vermelho de pesca preso ao cais , os reflexos e a cor da agua estão magnificos , bom contraste de cores , parabéns!!!
Um abraço Gonçalo

Hi Tom,
I like the way you composed this scene ... as if the boat was just peeking around the corner. The contrast, reflections, and image clarity is very good. This is an excellent photo ... well composed and I say one of your best. Excellent work! tfs

hello there, Tom

let me tell you this: miss fletcher is a beauty! a beauty with a character... of course, enhanced by her bright orange outfit. nice, how she peeks flirtatiously arund the corner here. i like the wind dribble on the water-surface too. a nice composition overall and a nice femme fatale, friend.

kind regards and TFS

ps. i do not know the series, but i still can sense the "murder" factor in this one ;)

Hi Tom,

I was attracted by the title! Hmmm ... "watchable, but ridiculous": Definitly watchable (I think I didn´t miss even one episode), but perhaps all crime series are somehow ridiculous (like CSI, Navy CIS, Cold Case, even though I enjoy watching them); at least, the series had a lot of flair. As far as I know, "Cabot Cove" is situated somewhere at the West Coast. It´s not there where it pretends to be; nevertheless, most of your photos from the New England states with all the small harbors have reminded me a little bit of Cabot Cove.
Good note, and nice, saturated colors. The contrast between the blue sea and the orange boat is great!

Great switch of the water from green to blue, well assembled with the colors of the ship. I'm an old fan of Jessica, so I may to precise that she is a... Mrs Fletcher? As a Miss, she was McGill...
Wishes, Diana
