[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In 1982 there was a National Geographic article on my country Peru. One of the photos showed a boy sheppard in the andes highlands who had some sheep run over by a car. The photo was so powerful that thousands of people donated money in order for him to replace his sheep.

When I saw this kid I couldnt help but remember this story.

Taken while hiking around Hajara in the mountains around Manaka.

hello Daniel,
yes, I can see the similarities - the way this boy is holding the sheep makes it quite obvious he is well aware of the value and importance of the animal. I quite like the simple composition you have chosen, placing the boy up front certainly focuses viewers attention on him. nicely saturated sky, I like a lot how it contrasts with the white coat of the animal.
excellent travel photo.
best,
Kristine

The way you captured this picture so close to the boy gave him all the importance of this world. It really shows how proud he is with the goat in his arms. And also the way he looking down to the camera is magnificent. The light is excellent and the colours superb. Well done.
Antonio

D: at Pushkar, the little Rajasthani girls would see a lens-toting tourist and rush with sheep. The same? Perhaps not. It's the lighting here that makes your shot. Your country. your life. Enough said. Full green on this one. regards, c

p.s. - I respect your defiance of the straight horizon-rule... balsy..

Olá Daniel,

Hi Daniel!
Wonderful photo of this proud little boy and his friend. Very nice moment. I like the POV and the beautiful colors too.
Thanks for sharing!
Regards, Csilla

Salut Dan,

A meaningful picture.

Hi Daniel,
I remember the photo which you mention in your note well, I also have the national geographic video where the photographer is telling this story. You are right this shot does remind me of that story, but it is still unique in its own way. I like the bright saturated colour especially of he sky and the boy and sheeps expressions are nicely captured. A great clear shot.

Wanda

Hello, Daniel -
Nice composition. You've caught the boy's expression perfectly. The landscape background is interesting, with the rough dirt against the smooth blue sky. Warm colors. Nice work!

Bonjour Daniel

Nice portrait of Yemen

Very good portrait, Daniel, I like how the light is managed here, especially the whites are impressive...

Hello Daniel
Beautiful picture! What stands out to me is the look of the boy, no eye contact, looking out of the frame, posing with pride with his sheep. Your low POV actually makes his 'stature' even better. You had the wonderful polarised sky to contrast behind his head. I have not seen the Natgeo photograph you mentioned, but I liked your note where you drwe inspiration from it & took this wonderful picture.
With Regards
Angshu

Indeed, I like your having the subject so close to the
lens. Secondly, I like the colour contrast between the
sheep and the rest of the BG. Overall light balance is great.
Have no problem with the crooked horizon line - only
the boy appears to be a bit stiff, as if uncomfortable
with you taking a pic of him, or was he shy? (he's clearly not looking at the camera).
Robi

The deep rich colours are most impressive in this shot. Your framing works well to with the boy placed on the right and the sheep facing into the shot. A quality image of great sharpness too. Nice work.
Best wishes
Mark

Hola Daniel

I remember that NG story. William Albert Allard is one of my favorite NG photographers. This photo reminds me of his except here the boy is proud and happy because he found his sheep. The low perspective is great as it sets the boy against the sky (the color of the sky and the color of his skin complement each other) and makes him look down to the camera. His proud expression is great. The only thing I don't like is the sky. It is way too dark in my opinion. Did you use a polarizer or is this just because the bright white sheep made it so that you had to underexpose the sky?

bonjour daniel

Marc

Really strong work here Daniel..the pure white of the animal against the deep blue sky works wonders..theres also a sense of pride from the boy as he looks down at us.

Hello Daniel,
Superbe, a+

Marie

Hi Daniel, I like very much your photos of kids, always with an interesting context (my favourite is the more recent one with fish in the BG : irresistible !
This one too is wonderful, the proud and serious attitude (a bit stiff, I like it !) of the little boy and again, interesting things to observe in the BG, a great photo !
Compliments,
