Sana, San'a, Sanaa, or Sana'a - capital of Yemen and one of the most facinating in the Arab world with it's unique architecture, bustling souqs, friendly inhabitants and lack of tourists.

Sana’a is one of the ancient Yemen cities dating date back to the Sabean dynasty. The oldest reference to its existence is found in inscriptions dates back to the late the 1st Century AD. The inscriptions also refer to the historical Palace of Ghamdan associated with Salheen Palace in Marib . This suggested that Sana’a was the capital of the Himyrate dynasty at the onset of the 6th century AD when king Yousef Athar Dhu Nawas the last of the Himyarite kings was in power . It was also the capital of the Abyssinian rules and after them the Persians who also made Sana’a their capital.

This photo was taken very early in the morning from top of the hotel where I was staying. I have use NO filters.

Lucie, you did it again. This is why you are on my favorites list. The buildings look 3D to me as the haze works to separate them from the buildings in the background. I also think this photo has the look of a painting. Well done.

Greetings from Florida................Greg

Good morning, Lucie,
The photo is aptly titled, for sure! The light is the image's most arresting feature. Coming from New York, my first inclination is to think it is light on smog, but perhaps this is mist? At any rate, the light diffused by it makes it look like a city in the clouds. Nice job.

Regards, Lisa

Hi Lucie,

A difficult situation handled so well without loosing any details of your theme. Great composition.
Well done

joshy

The light you have captured here is just fabulous, Lucie, and a nicely composed shot as well. I love to see photographs of Sanaa on TE as it is a place that is high on my list of 'must see' destinations. This one is quite different to most of the others that I have seen - the soft early morning light and smoky haze gives it a special quality. Cheers . . . David

Great composition. I think this would work very well converted to B&W. Rgds, Leilani

Excellent shot! I really like this, with the mist or dust in the distance creating a very interesting perspective as you look farther away. The long lens tends to compress and make landscapes look flat, but the mist gives this depth. Great work!

Hello Lucie,

On a l'impression de regarder une peinture ! La légére brume donne une très belle ambiance à cette photographie ! J'apprècie tout particulièrement le cadrage qui donne beaucoup de valeur au batiment de l'avant plan!
Bravo !

Bellisima Lucie! I mean: wonderful light, fading on the building and making the distance so real and a-temporal in the same time.
And what a place. Yemen is my forbidden dream!
Thanks for sharing
Laura
P.S. the pattern on the big building makes it seems a in-ward angle or a waving facade to my eyes.. strange and charming optical effect

Hi LUcie
What nice light,
I guess it was worth it ot wake up for this,
te view is stunning and the blueish tones you got work well to give a mysterious aura
very well done
Regards
Daniel

Lucie: yes, a perfectly layered, scalloped, and expertly divided image. Proof that you can extract a powerful image from the seemingly overwhelming. regards, c

Ah Lucie,
an amazing vista from your hotel!
Smokey haze gives something mystic to this beautiful
arabic architecture. New York is one thing, but this
is rock'n'roll!!!
Robi
PS. btw, how come that the top of minaret and that building
in the middle appear to be of a darker hue?!?

The light is fantastic. I like the different layers of buildings, all in the same tone, and the overall geometrical pattern of this picture.

Very well done to this one showing the capital of Yemen.
Best regards

Hello,
Nice details and colours. Also very nice framing.

Hi Lucie,

I normally see this kind of atmosphere on pictures of mountain ranges. A bit unusual (for me) to see it in a picture of a big city. You did good to shoot it and share it. Some of the rooftops seem littered with satellite dishes.

Best regards,
Lamberto

Cau Luci,

This is a very good shot of Sana'a. I really like the mood you have accomplished here Lucie. I may have put the minaret a bit more to the right of the frame, but a small gripe.

Regards,
David

This place must be magic and this light is so soft, so beautiful... You captured it precisely and that's well done. Simply great.
Stéphane

well done, reminds me all my travels to- and within the ME..

I really like the gradual fade to white from the foreground to the background. There's so many motifs and paterns in this picture that we could analyse it for hours and always find something new, great job.
