| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Because of popular demand I post a picture today of a Yemeni crowd that actually includes a woman. Look carefully to the left.
Generally Yemeni people are extremely friendly and helpful, but pointing a camera towards a woman is not at all appreciated and can cause serious problems. I had some short chats with high-school girls (veiled, of course) who wanted to practise some English, but if I asked to take their picture the reply was NO, and off they went hurriedly, looking around to make sure that no-one had noticed anything.
A scanned Kodachrome slide. |

all the images you have shown by now seem to be very good. but some of them lack good colors and sharpness.
You've managed to capture the atmosphere of the place. Those places are the same all around the world: different clothes and you'd feel like at the Polish bazaar ;-)
Do the lilac colours come from the Kodachrome slide?
Regards
Joanna
Hello Gert,
Very interesting capture of the busy market of Sana. I can feel the noise and life in this shot.
Well taken
Thanks for sharing
Best regards

Hej Gert,
Another very good photo from Yemen and at last a woman in the picture. Interesting to read your note about taking photos here, but it certainly looks like the woman herself is taking a photo of you. Or is she just studying a shoe? Now I´m looking forward to pictures from Bhutan.

PS I think the colours are quite good. You can of course do some adjustment of colour temperature but not knowing what 'reality' looked like I think this is just OK.
This seems really a fantastic place, I like the confusion and the fact that there is so much to observe in one frame, and when I read that this is a slide that you scanned, I tell myself that I should learn how to do that (instead of scanning paper photos that were printed from slides !)
TFS,
Cheers,
Cath.
