The ancient gates of the Old City of Sana'a, still stand proud after hundreds of years, once providing security from any threats, but today providing an important symbol and reminder of this city's history. It always amazes me that after so many years, the Old City remains the hub of activity, even amongst any form of modern development.
It was quite evident from the interest the locals took in me, that not a great number of tourists visit here, but although I was the "stranger in town", I was still made to feel welcome as I walked through the streets of the old city.

Hallo Grant
very nice capture of this daily life scene around the marvelous gate
excellent details and sharpness

Grant: great tableau of old Arabian urban life - with adornments of mondernity. Fine seen. regards, c

Hello Grand. Beautifully to see again a picture from the Yemen. At the town-gate of Sanaa the chopped off hands were nailed still some years ago by thieves. The photo is composed outstanding and pleases me very well. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Grant,
A wonderful street scene full of interesting details to look at. I especially like that we can see some of the people with the traditional knives in their belts. A nice wide angle too to get in a lot. I have noticed though that there are only men here in your image, is it like this mostly in the streets?
Regards
Wanda

Nice.....Bab al-Yemen (The Gate of Yemen). Even though the sky isn't blue it's still a great photo, especially for someone that has been there. I wish I had a photo as good of this gate. Great color in the gate and buildings and great daily life photo.

Makes me wanna go there :) But watch out that traffic sing - you can go only out of Sanna not inside :))

Hello Grant,
An interesting and good capture of the everyday life in Sana'a. I appreciate your fairly wide POV which really gives me a feel for this ancient city. I also like the natural rendition of the people going about their everyday activities. Good job!
Stan

A great view of Bab Al-Yemen, Grant! Never mind the (almost) white sky - that's the way it is during most of the day with the harsh light, and it nicely matches the white plaster decorations on the buildings.

(And I'm envious - when I was there (April/May), there was a great big tent in front of it, obscuring most of the view; now I must go back some day to get a better view and a better picture! ;) )
