Angels play prominent roles in the three major religions emanating from the Middle East. Although I doubt that any of the holy scriptures mention the existence of female angels, I think that gender equality should be a natural thing even in angelic matters in our day and age.
So here is a little girl angel and a boy angel I met in a village a short distance from Sanaa, capital of Yemen. In case they had wings they were hidden from the human eye.
I managed to capture them on a Kodachrome slide which I now managed to scan. The mid-day light was quite harsh, as you may notice.
Here is a larger version.

Hello dear Gert,
Not too old but still a good Kodachroma scan.
Those two cute kids must be now around their twenties.
TFS and have a nice evening

Lovely portrait of these little angels. I love the twinkle in their eyes and their nervous smiles. Considering their age they have very good hair growth.
Looking at all the troubles Middle East has faced since you took this photo...God knows how they are doing. I hope they are fine. Thanks for sharing a gem.

Hello Gert. What a beautiful double portrait of cute kids. I am enjoying the friendly faces. I like the closeness and directness of these photos.

At least those children are smiling, it's so sad to think of those children growing up in poor countries without enough food. Good details and wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.

Hi Gert. In my photo for Mandela I mentioned the lack of dark skinned angels and now you raise the question of sexism in religious iconography. just as well we are not ruminating about the visible manifestation of God. Lovely shot without any affectation, just sincerity and empathy.Best wishes. Klaudio.

it may have been a harsh sun, gert, but i very much like the effect it had on blowing out the background, allowing us to focus on their wonderful faces.
as always with your photos of children, i wonder how they are now ~ older and minus their innocence and perhaps that lovely curiosity they showing here toward you and your camera.
so glad you have captured all of these people and moments from so many countries over the years. you continue to give us such insight and education to cultures, some of which we have already lost, and some of which, i am realizing, may not be safe enough to visit again in my lifetime. thank you for all of them.

such a lovely and thoughtful note that makes us look back at these charming children with tenderness and interest, something all children deserve. Your picture and note make us apply your lovely approach to all the children we see or know. I like very much how you have filled the tight frame with the children's faces, there's wonderful depth and vivid colours, their direct and natural expressions make us feel we are communicating with them through space and time:) Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

J'aime bien ce portrait des deux enfants aux yeux très vifs et allumé et au sourire large qu'apporte la curiosité et l'envie de faire connaissance.J'aime aussi le mouvement dans leurs cheveux.

A couple of great childish expressions here, nicely caught just the sort of street shot that I adore, and I love the intense look of the girl on the right.
The subjects, composition, the framing are all done really well even though the lighting looks a bit unkind to you. Good scanned and pp treatment, Tfs
macjake (69245) 2013-12-27 10:44
very opposite people here.
straight hair/curly hair
slim face/full face
and you're right, the lighting kinda sucked here, but what can you do? We all face that poor lighting from time to time, and sometimes you just have to capture the moment anyways.
for some reason it brings back alot of childhood memories, thinking about similar photos i've seen myself or my 2 brothers in.
a thoughtful shot!

Hi Gert, I love these two happy faces and I image how they would look like today as an adult. Kids are all pure like angels. They bring joy and hope to this world. I like their original look especially their innocence and the way their hair presented. Thank for sharing.
williewhistler (16398) 2013-12-27 13:22
the direct gaze of each child more than makes up for any deficiency caused by the harsh light,it`s a truly delightful, natural double portrait,it`s the eyes that do it for me.
Best wishes Les.

what a lovely picture! You got really charming models and their little faces make one look at them with the smile. There is plenty of warmth captured in here despite the hardships of their life.
Nice and natural colors, well done!

Touching note to intruduce the charming children so kind to smile at you in a kind of ashamed way
Scanned keeping the true colors and more important the eye to eye contact,, well done
So many years ago, lets hope they grow and are happy nowadays
About Ipacaria Lake, only one in Paraguay, far from Yacireta damm, on Parana River about 260 KM from here

If it wasn't for the present situation of the country, I would surely put this country on my top list!
Nice portrait with the children so happy looking at your camera! The light was harsh but you got much detail on their faces. Well framed! These are the moments I really like during my trips!
Have a great New Year!

kato (11630) 2014-01-04 21:29
You're capturing well this portrait by a good macro, so it's interesting and impressive to see the pure and innocent looks as a jewel. They have a face peculiar to the Middle East. It's good color contrast between the red cardigan of little girl and the blue jumper of little boy. The face of a child innocent also at the time of when is beautiful like an angel as you note in here.
Waylim (25502) 2014-01-16 9:03
Ah cute kids, They are now in their 20's wonder what they do know, married with children of their own. Always a pleasure to see such portrait of children around the world. Reminded of my own child hood. thanks.
