Photographer’s Note

Entering the old city of Sana'a is like taking a leap into the thousand and one nights. The old fortified city has been inhabited for more than 2,500 years, and contains a wealth of intact architectural gems. Many of the houses resemble ancient skyscrapers, reaching several stories high and topped with flat roofs. They are decorated with elaborate friezes and intricately carved frames and stained glass windows.

Hi Steve,
What is it with plastic bags and people not picking them up. As you say in your note, the buildings are decorated with elaborate friezes and intricate carving yet look at the street, beats me.
Good shot, excellent POV. I love the soft colours.

Hi Steve.
You and Klaudio are doing the nostalgia thing! Your photo is a little reminiscent of his latest upload, too, just in the way it's composed and the light and shade. Excellent daily life shot, with the interesting displacement of the three figures in a staggered row. I wonder what the woman's gesture represents. You controlled the bright light fairly well. It's a good scan as usual. Well done.

Nice light despite your position in the shadows, the architecture indeed looks very interesting and the earth colors which are abundant in the architecture sure are middle eastern.

Very nostalgic for both of us. Sanaa is no doubt the most remarkable city I've ever seen, and this picture really captures its atmosphere. It's very well exposed, considering the obvious difficulties, and that woman adds a great splash of colours to this grey/brown street.

Hi Steve, Another good image from way back then, several things here that take my attention, architecture, lady waving her arm, i wonder at what or whom & those wretched plastic bags, I would not have expected to see so many on the road almost 20 years ago. Nice work all round.
