A stitch of 2 photos, the view from the fortress above Thula, it's a steep and sweaty 2km, walk from Thula village, the walk is mostly stone steps up and up and up, The terraced fiels at right slope to the Red Sea, I think the elevation here is around 2000m. where the photo is taken. The stitched photos were 22mm. each in focal length.

Fantastic landscape and assembly, with my taste, very quite made up.
I like the softness of the colors in a hard landscape.
belido (19934) 2007-07-13 17:38
very nice landscape. The land formation is attractive and the inclusion the of architecture on left helped to enhance the image. Good job with the stitching, I almost can't see the junctions. Great shot!

Realmente uma foto interessante dessas ruínas. Gosto das cores bem naturais e das várias texturas. Um ótimo trabalho, gostei muito.

Hey Tan. Yes that does look to be some very tough ground to try and pass over. I might be crazy but does the right exposure look a bit brighter than the one on the left or was it really like that? What a sky you had off I the distance for a yummy topping of clouds. tfs Tan!

Excellent panorama! Amazing POV.

Tan, What a wonderfully interesting scene. A woek in shades of brown and tan. I have lived in a the desert a couple of times and it is beautiful and you have captured that stark brauty in this shot. I particularly like ther terraced land, it shows how hospitable the desert is to those that choose to eek out al life in it. My only negative thought is that I wish you had formatted it to be a large post. Well seen.
grantlp (2113) 2007-07-13 20:19
A wonderful image of this harsh landscape, and a very good composition with the fortress tower perfectly positioned in the frame. I like the natural patterns that you've captured across the land, and the formation of clouds on the horizon completes the image. Well done.

A bird's eye view, as usual from you! Nice light and good details of the fortress and the terraces below. This is really a place I must visit some day!
Have a nice week-end.
PixelTerror (0) 2007-07-14 1:47
Wow does it look dry, I feel thirsty just looking at it ;-)

Beautiful panorama, where constructions become confused with the landscape, A way as one other one to protect itself.
happypoppeye (4817) 2007-07-14 11:15
This is a really good shot Tan. It really shows the environment around Thula nicely. I especially like that you captured the terraced fields. I was there but did not climb the mountain, unfortunately. An oppurtunity missed that I will probably never have again. I have never seen the view from the top but always wondered a little. Thanks for posting.
Great composition and color. A real original for the site. I bet that climb was steep. Could you see Hababah from the top or was it covered by the hills?
Angelillo (9372) 2007-07-14 11:29
Great scenery and very well composed frame. The castle on the peak and the desertic valley... it's quite impressive the vast space, the great depth. Great! Thanks.
sleon (9402) 2007-07-14 13:11
What an arid and remarkable landscape. I like this stitch which shows the commading position of the fortress over the surroundings, it seems to be a scarcely visited place by tourists.
MichaelTrezzi (3347) 2007-07-14 14:06
Hi Tan, very well done stitching, quite romantic landscape and nice composition with beautiful clouds on the horizon - how much safe was it there ? Take care, Michael

That's a pov, that's a light !!
Your last posts are really great. You make the landscapes so incredible. Excellent realization (especially the dof).
kevinos (7393) 2007-07-15 0:43
A wonderful Panorama , Tan, from the patchwork of fields below to the massive rocks and the imposing tower that give the composition coherence. regards kevin

Hi Tan... Quite an spectacular game of shapes: The curves on the hill, the clouds on the sky, the tower, the rocks... All in this photo is smooth and sweet, inviting althouhg is kind of desertic landscape, not too much different from what we have here south Madrid, I should add.
These last days, Yemen has been a lot in the news here, and not for good. Hopefully one day, things will change. Take care.
bazal (7900) 2007-07-15 3:30
I have never been in Yemen, and I'm not able to explain why, but I really fascinated by this country. This semi-panoramic view on the old buildings which vanishes in its arid environment is splendid. The clouds in the background appear as a promise of rain for he desertic ara.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful shot!

This is a big scene and one hard to photograph usually. However you have managed to show us a huge bit of it and it is exceeding well diplayed. The barreness is always attractive for me
jrj (34841) 2007-07-16 2:30
What a place Tan - set in an interesting pano by use of the 2 photos. Good details in the well disposed compo not least by the foreground details of the fortress.
jemaflor (83757) 2007-07-16 3:16
As usual a perfect composition for this landscape, nice pov with a great landscape with a fortress very well placed in your view, good depth with this valley.
bostankorkulugu (42018) 2007-07-16 3:42
yine tam da "tan stili" bir foto olmuş bu... yükseklere çıkılır ve bütün güzellikler gözler önüne serilir... ve herkese özenle "buraya mutlaka ben de gitmeliyim" dedirtilir... elinize sağlık...

I like the reliefs in the landscape to the right, the table structure make this picture nice of composition, also the fortress above Thula, care for a attractive picture.
Good shitching work too.

ryno (6835) 2007-07-20 5:10
Hi Tan, this is a great panoramic shot of one of the world's little-known places. Interesting detail in the tower, terraced fields and looming clouds. It looks like a harsh land. Good work!
Angshu (55407) 2007-07-22 0:41
The sheer grandness of the place takes one's breath away. The high POV & the incredible DOF are your trademarks. The terraces one can see on the right...are they for agriculture? Fantastic stitch job done for an incredible landscape.
crhieatt (5347) 2007-07-23 9:27
Another fantastic overview - great stitch job too.
This landscape really needs exploring - for the time being it'll have to be you!!! Much as I'd like to take your place!
barni (15751) 2007-07-24 0:51
Quelle vue !!!!
Une très bonne netteté qui permet de bien voir la structure du sol.
Have a nice day
stego (24028) 2007-09-10 18:08
Despite the haze on the distant bg, the extension of the view is amazing. The pov was very well chosen and the stitching is flawless. Those terraced fields that spread forever make it graphically very interesting, at the same time that surprise me for showing that those stark fields can actually be used to agriculture.
TFS, Regards, José.
Mistral (15402) 2007-11-14 10:42
love your landscape image. When I was there it was raining... it means I have to come back, right?
