If you drive about 120km from Dubai, heading towards the Omani border (towards Muscat), you will soon find yourself away from the fast and furious pace of Dubai city, and into the real heart and soul of the UAE. You will pass by huge red desert sand dunes, small old Arabic villages, and finally bordering the Hatta mountains.
I had booked my family and I into the tranquil Hatta Fort Hotel, which is a lovely, relaxing place to spend the weekend. Waking up as normal, before the run rises, I was enjoying a hot cup of coffee, while sitting outside on our room balcony. There wasn't a lot of exciting subjects to photograph, but I liked this mountain view, so used my telephoto zoom lens to crop into the distant mountains, and included a small section of a close hill, near the hotel. I had set my apperture to f/13 and hand held my camera....as steady as I could do.....and here is the result. Focal lenght was at 170mm.

Hello Grant
Very nice and original lanscape.
I just find that foreground is a little bit too large.
well done
regards
Claude

When I first looked at it, I thought no way this in in the UAE. But I suppose the closer you get to Oman, the more the landscape changes. The rough edges of the mountains in the rear make for some interesting jagged shapes don't they. Well done.

Hello, Grant--
Not your typical UAE shot here... i like it. A good blend of atmosphere and foreground detail, with some nice light. Maybe just a little bit earlier and the light would have been a little bit more dramatic, particularly in the foreground, but that might have required a tripod--you already did well to hold it this still at 1/100 and 170mm. Have you thought about going B&W with this?
Thanks!
sam

Hi Grant,

Nice to see the different grey tones! I'm wondering why you didn't choose to go for a pure B/W. Wondering how it would have looked if you made the foreground darker and all in B/W. Might become too heavy as well... Thanks for sharing!

Greetings, Dennis

Hello Grant
The layers work very well here...all in tones of gray. In fact going by the tones of the picture, it's almost a monochrome image...the appeal lies there. Good compo. with the diagonal of the slope in the FG as well.

Angshu
