Photographer's Note
I visited Dubai in January 2003, and was able to explore some of the hinterland with some resident friends in a 4WD. The town of Hatta is about three hours from the city of Dubai, and boasts a tourist hotel and a heritage village with restored buildings, as well as mosques and rudimentary business premises. The mountains in the background are the rugged Al Hajar mountains, which straddle the border with Oman. I really liked the rocky, colourful countryside which contrasted markedly with the desert dunes (covered with other 4WD vehicles doing the usual middle class thing).

Very nice photo Andrew. I've been there and I know the problems that someone may face with the atmosphere not being very clear, but i see you had no particular problems there. Excellent sharpness, contrast and colours. More than the beautiful buildings, what attracted my eye was the oasis, eternal symbol of the triumph of nature against the worst circumstances and also the man's courage in search of a shelter.

Andrew, my fiancee spent the last 4 years of her schooling in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and is constantly trying to get me to go there. Shots like this go a long way to persuade me to visit......Paul.

andrew,
i love the separation and contrast of colors here. good light management provides us with great view on the horizon and your dof makes it possible to explore all the small details here. great use of light.

Greetings Andrew. An intimate photo of a quiet place, nestled in the valley. Its white buildings seem to make it vulnerable against the craggy surrounds. Nicely composed with excellent DoF.A bientot. Klaudio

Hello.
It's interesting to discover this side of the Emirate of Dubaï, very different from the classical pictures of the big city covered by concrete. This mountain area reminds me some places in the neighboring Sultanate of Oman. Thanks for sharing.

Serwus Andrew !
The town seems to be perfectly hidden in the rockyscape. Very convincing perspective, with excellent use of natural terrace as the reference point and stunning depth with differently coloured layers of ridges. Exceptional place.
Best wishes and thank You,
Mat

Hi Andrew
It must be interesting seeing the people living in the arabian 'outback' away from the hustle and bustle of modern UAE. Nice PoV and the silhouettes of the mountains in the back look great.
Cheers
