Al Maryah Island (former Sowwah Island) is located northeast of Abu Dhabi. The name "Al Maryah" refers to a historical village in Liwa, place deep in desert also in United Arab Emirates, that was inhabited by large numbers of pure Arabian Oryx, also referred to as Al Maryah.
The island is being developed in several phases which will include construction of offices, residential buildings, hospitals and leisure infrastructure. It is planned that there will be 13 bridges connecting it with the nearby islands. Some of them are already constructed like the one in the photo. Photo was also taken from one of the bridges to the island.
