Photographer’s Note
This is a more unusual photograph for me to post to TrekEarth - nearly all of my images here are photographs I have taken but this one has an element of construction in that it may seem to some to be candid but this gentleman was very aware of me taking it. I even asked through my friend Izzet whether he could look to his left to catch the light in his eyes - it is a portrait - a portrait of a working man - a man who has humour and the story of his life in his ingrained in his face - I know there have been a fair few 'celebrated' photographers on TrekEarth who work with the people they meet as 'models' - in my day to day work this may be part of my practice as a photographer but not usually on the street - it was wonderful meeting this man and working with him to 'make' the photograph. Since George's comment on my image of him from yesterday I am more uncomfortably conscious of the background and the imbalance it may cause (depending on how you look at it) than I was but I still like the strength of his presence through the image.

Hi Kev,
Nothing wrong with a model...though? I also approach them with with a smile and try to make the setting as good as possible. Can't see what's wrong with that because it's what i like to do and to make...i'm not interested in what others think of that ;-)
If this one is posed or not, asking him looking a certain way, who cares, the end result is what counts and for me this works. I find this a great great great portrait. Not something we see here on a daily basis. You know what you are doing and that shows....top notch quality, i every way...perfect..!!!

True enough, Kev.
THAT face doesn't have to have any support from the background.
The story is there... In those eyes... The wrinkles... The whiskers...
A face the photographer would kill for.
The most delightful presentation there is, pal.

close to the ideal portrait... close for there is that lack irregular stripe along the right hand edge of the image...
nevertheless it is the portrait that could be published in one of those handbooks for photographers...

Great use of light and DOF. This image portraits your subject with great dignity. There's melancholy in his eyes. When a portrait can evoke this feeling to the viewer it's a great succes
All the best

Hi Kev
You learnt us about the world with your pictures like this one the man has a natural expression and I note a very good quality of lights and contrast, great picture.
Your speciality is daily life in the world and portraits.
I don’t want to make publicity about my pictures collection but I have a different style by showing places of my adoption country, architectures and nature.
This is my answer to you about your question in your thread.
