Photographer’s Note
"Il n'y a pas de sot métier,
Il n'y a que des sottes gens".
(A French proverb, meaning : "there are no stupid jobs ; there are (only some) stupid people (around)..."
This was taken during the school holidays, this young lad was working for pocket money as so many other school and college students in Turkey, in this case I guess you have understood where it is : in a public toilet at a minibus station. A friend of his had come to visit.
[Price is less expensive than in most such places, generally it is 0,500 YTL or 50 kurus (about 0,25 euros) - here it should have been written 35 and not 350].
Not a great photo but a frienly glance I think... The pink-violet colours of the ceramics, together with the neon-light in the tiny room made the whole picture incredibly kitch, I had to desaturate a lot and also to lighten considerably the faces of the boys, hence the noise which I tried a bit to attenuate with blur (no noise reduction).

ciao Catherine,
I just quote Jasmis's critique. this picture is human and real. they look spontaneous..it is a good portrait thanks to the natural framing.
moreover...when you are student...there's no stupid job...everything's good to get some money and be somehow indipendent from parents!
ciao

I love it! I love the natural frame, the writing above the boys, their mischievous smiles, the plastic change box....I have a similar shot with a little boy, but this one is much better.

Bonjour, Catherine.

A great double portrait, Cath, especially that innocent yet mischievous face on the right! Nice job dealing with the noise in postprocessing. (I think I might have just made the whole thing black and white, but it's a minor thing for this image.) It's almost as if they knew you were going to put them on TE! Regards, Ken.

Salut Catherine
A superb b&w image, (or desaturated image leaving just a faint, red, plastic tray), with good shadow detail & superb sharpness & framing. A nice dual portrait, also. Merci, et bon weekend!

hi Cath
I can say this kind of travel photo is the best thing happening to you, it not only shows what you see but brings back to your TE gallery to share with us how funny little ways of life has gone through your eyes.
A simple opening hole, 2 heads popping out, add a fine touch of smile. Why? It is most appealing because it causes a smile on my face when I view this.
Throw in a great note, as you always never fail. And I call that one of your best TE post on daily life/humoruos category.
tfs, bill
