Blue Mosque on a cloudy day Photo

Photographer’s Note

The Blue Mosque of Istanbul has been posted thousands of the times, I know that, but when I realize that a great light and some white clouds show up, on rare occasions , I cannnot simply sit down and wait, I feel like going out and take pictures. This is how I got there yesterday. The picture was taken from the building housing the Museum of Islamic Arts: Among the 6 minarets, the Egyptian obelisk of the Hippodrom is showing its top.

Hello Izzet Bey,
The composition is ingenious like all of your photos. To compose this photo with the roof lining the bottom is so different and beautiful. The pale blue of the sky, with the silver colored mosque and minarets and the sharpness are outright superb.

Hello Dear Izzet,

It's my lucky day! I just happened to be up at this ungodly hour (it is 4:11 am here in the East Coast) when I logged onto Trekearth and your newest photograph rolled in. What an absolutely spectacular vantage point for viewing the 3400-year old obelisk, with a relative infant, the 400-year old Sultanahmet providing the backdrop. Including the terra cotta tiles was a master stroke. It adds additional texture and color highlight.

Have a good weekend. Here it is 4th of July, and a big weekend coming up.

Bonjour Izzet,
Il est vrai que l'on a déjà vu des centaines de photos de la Mosquée Bleue, mais je trouve que ton POV est particulièrement original. Tout d'abord parce que tu as réussi à cadrer les 6 minarets (ce qui n'est pas évident) et en plus l'obélisque se positionne parfaitement au milieu de toutes ces flèches verticales. Ce ciel nuageux est bien évidemment un plus et j'aime ce bout de toit rouge que tu as utilisé pour fermer l'image vers le bas. Magnifique!

You always find these special vantage points to shoot Sultanahmet. This is an exceptional capture, and I particularly appreciate the low contrast. It's all too easy to crank up the contrast and ruin a good photo. Great work! Regards,

Si c'est vrai que cette Mosquée bleue a souvent été postée sur TE elle l'a été rarement sous un ciel aussi beau.et avec une telle lumière.
J’aime bien aussi l’angle de prise de vue qui met bien en évidence les six minarets.

Very nice composition, and the Egyptian Obelisk really adds a contrasting historical perspective. The tones seem a bit flat though, perhaps the contrast could be better. I'll try a workhop if you don't mind :)
