A view from the depths of Şanlıurfa streets, where i felt swallowed by the dense feeling of ancient history... Those streets are magical with unspoiled stone houses with lots of architectural details, and my overall impression is like walking inside an endless, thousand year old labyrinth...

The history of Şanlıurfa is recorded from the 4th century BC, but may date back to the 8th century BC, when there is ample evidence for the surrounding sites at Duru, Harran and Nevali Cori. It was one of several cities in the Euphrates-Tigris basin, the cradle of the Mesopotamian civilization. According to Turkish Muslim traditions Urfa (its name since Byzantine days) is the biblical city of Ur, due to its proximity to the biblical village of Harran. However, the Iraqis also claim the city of Ur in southern Iraq, as do many historians and archaeologists.

Urfa is also known as the birthplace of Abraham, commemorated by a mosque in the city and the birthplace of Job.

Urfa was conquered repeatedly throughout history, and has been dominated by many civilizations, including the Ebla, Akkadians, Sumerians, Babylonians, Hittites, Hurris, Armenians, Mittannis, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Medes, Persians, Macedonians (under Alexander the Great), Seleucids, Arameans, Osrhoenes, Romans, Sassanids, Byzantines, Crusaders.

Hi Deniz, what a beautiful light you have captured here. You can almost feel the texture of the wet floor and damped walls. Excellent capture,
Cheers,
Enrique

Iste thumbnaildan tanidigim bir Rigo fotosu!!!
Yoksa bugun kitaptan gosterdigin icin mi tanidim... Ama kitapta gosterdiginde de "Tam tarzin" demistim. Demek ki kitaptan gostermeseydin de tanirmisim.
Sansli gunundeymissin yine, cocuklarin kirmizi agirlikli giyimi acayip yakismis. Sepyamsi sarimsi ortamlarda kirmizi dehset guzel oluyor, bakiniz 300.. Gerci sen seyretmemistin ama olsun. Sen en iyisi bir seyret onu.
Genelde bu tip tunelimsi kapimsi kemerimsi mekanlarda simetri gormeye alismisim ama buradaki zaten simetrik olmayan kemer uzantisini saga yapistirip o parcayi fotografa cerceve yapman cok hosuma gitti.
Opucuk...

ps. Top Serbet'in yuzune carpti oynarken, acayip korktu. Simdi de kustu oynamiyor...

hi deniz, the true contrast color picture, good composition.

I like the old feel here, helped by the textures and outstanding tones. The repeating arches give depth, with the kids providing the needed human element. And thanks for the very good historical note.
regards,
Cristian

Hi Deno!

Excellent title for this very impressive photo, this is really my favorite photographic style, combining the great architecture photo with a very interesting daily life scene! Technically flawless, artistically fabulous! Congratulations!

bu insanlar bir tablonun içinde yürüyorlar adeta... ışık da nefis olmuş... böyle ışık kontrolü görmedim valla...

Merhaba Denniz.

Excellent note to learn us a little more about this place.

Nice simmetry with that arches and good idea the people there.

Well done!

So, you went to Urfa to find some additional inspiration by Abraham? I have the impression that you didn't just get a thousand year of depth, but actually of thousands of years. Incredibly beautiful framing for the little family running through the arches.
Peter

Hi Deniz,

Nice place and beautiful treatment on colors... I like your framing too which gives a good balance.

Regards,
Stéphanie.

Harika cerceve yapmissin. Yerin ve duvarin dokusuna, simetriye bayildim. Rengarenk giyinmis cocuklar da sansin olmus. Cok guzel valla, bravo.

Hello Deniz,
nice shot of this place with the old history. The narrow alleys with the arches above, really create an ancient atmosphere. The dirty cobblestone pavement with the waters to run and the dark parts of the arches stress the importance of this ancient place.
Informative your note too.

Have a nice week,danos

Deniz,
Great mood in this one.
The tones you caught are amazing, and yur compo is great with depth and geometrics.
Regards,
JB.

nice textures of the stones, good looking arches, the contrast is a bit hard
regards
jo

Must be a fantastic feeling to be under the arches of history like that. Maybe I would have gotten closer to the people for this one. But the composition and light are good. Best, -Hugh

Meraba Deniz,

Tebrikler
Selam ve sevgiler

Selam Deniz
A most historical place depicted in a way that fits its history and grandeur. The arched way is really beautiful and the presence of people bridges the time gap between "then" and "now"
Congratulations

Merhaba Deniz,
Şanlıurfa serisi birbirinden güzel.Tarihi dokuya yakışır eskitilmiş fotoğraf tarzındaki kompozisyonun, nefis ışıkla, şaheser niteliğinde bir çalışma olmuş.

Hi, Deniz, again.
Excellent work, indeed.
Your composition is just perfect.
But, first of all, I like your PP treatement here.
Clarify gave a very good effect in this case.
Best regards. Grazyna.

Urfa seems to have inspired you, dear Deniz, all your last photos are great IMO !
This one gives us a beautiful perspective together with a typical atmosphere, without the persons the photo would not have been the same...
(There is a strange phenomenon on the left : the woman with the black bag seems to be merging with the stones, probably is it the colours of her clothes but it is like a little story on its own, I did not notice her at first !)
Compliments,
Hugs,
Cath.

çok güsel beee. heleki simetri olmaması ii olmuş. yaa ben daha hiiçç şöle uçsuz buraksız çarşı fotoğrafı filan görmedim. yokmuydu oralarda?

Hi

Fascinating shot! I can hear the echo of history when I look at it.

Urfa and the other sights of historic Syria in general belong to the most fascinating places in the Near East indeed.

Who were the Mittannis and Osrhoenes btw? Never have heard about them before. You forgot to mention the Seldjuks, the Ottomans and the Turkish Republic in your list.

hello Deniz, I have to put this photo to my favourite, the framing and the mood is great! I like those people with colour dress, which make contrast to the ancient walls.

Depth and ancient walls... Deniz, another masterpiece from you!
The others have written all the good things, I don't want to repeat them. I just want to tell you a very small thing. These arches are symmetric and I think a symmetric composition would have been better here. But that's just my taste... I love this photo, anyway!
(Hope you don't mind the ws!)
