Photographer’s Note

Established in 1994 the Kaçkar Mountains National Park covers an area of 51,500 hectares.
The Park is special for its extraordinary number of rare plants and butterflies, many of which live in these mountains and nowhere else in the world. Much of the wildlife is difficult to see; you need to be patient and lucky to glimpse a distant Caucasian Black Grouse above the tree-line, or spot a Brown Bear drinking at the waterfall.

At the heart of the Park are its stunning landscapes. High peaks, alpine meadows, crystal clear lakes and dense forests – all special and always here for everyone to enjoy.

The Fırtına Stream and the Hemşin Stream, which are located in the east and west of the Kaçkar Mountains, are covered with rich flora. This vegetation is a sort of carstic one and includes both upper and endemic species. This is the only place where rhododendrons reach 3000 meters.
The Kaçkar Mountains, rich in fauna provide a habitat for species such as wolf, bear, pig, fox, roe deer, wild goat, deer, marten, jackal, Caucasian black grouse, Caucasian salamander, etc.

Kavron Buzul Vadisi karşılıklı iki yamacı ve tabanında ortalama 2300 m rakımda kurulan ve ilçe merkezine 29 km mesafede olan bir yayladır. Bu yaylayı da Aşağı Kavron Yaylası ile aynı köyler ortak kullanmaktadır. Nüfus çok değişken olmakla birlikte Ağustos ayı başında 400 civarında olmaktadır. Zaman zaman bu sayının 1000’e yaklaştığı da yayla sakinleri tarafından dile getirilmektedir. Ancak bu nüfusun büyük bir bölümünün hayvancılık değil tatil amaçlı olarak yaylada bulunduğu gözden kaçırılmamalıdır. Yaylaya göçler Haziranın ilk haftasında başlamakta, Ekim sonu itibariyle yayla boşalmaktadır. Ancak bazı turistik tesisler ile birkaç aile Kasım ayı başına kadar yaylada kalmaktadırlar. Yaylada yapılan 2000 yılı tespitlerine göre konut sayısı 120, yıkık ev sayısı (ocaklık) ise 60 olarak bulunmuştur

Yayladaki yapıların büyük çoğunluğu taş-ahşap malzemenin birlikte kullanımıyla inşa edilmiştir. Ancak tamamen ahşap ya da taş malzemeden yapılmış konutlar da mevcuttur.

Yayladaki ticari konaklama birimlerinde toplam 22 adet yatak bulunmaktadır. Kaçkarlara Kuzeyden tırmanmak isteyenlerin konaklayabilecekleri son nokta olan bu yayla bu işlevi nedeniyle önemli bir taleple karşı karşıyadır. Yayla sınırları içerisinde Kaçkar Dağı eteklerinde olan 7 göl yaklaşık 18.5 Ha toplam yüzeyle araştırma alanı içersinde Verçenik Tepe Göllerinden sonra ikinci en önemli göl alanı niteliğini taşımaktadır.

I like the perspective and depth in this picture, made by the portrait format. The person in FG is an eyecatcher and is leading the eye to the village, and further up to the foggy mountains. Good colors.

Hi, Ali. You've had a very good idea to put your fellow walker on the edge of your picture contemplating the scene below him. This gives a very good depth to the image and gives us the impression we are looking with him. The village below stands out very well against the grass and as we go up the slope, we can see the tops on the opposite side emerge from the clouds. I'm a little disappointed with the sky here. I think using Neatimage could make it better.

Difficult for me to believe that this is Turkey ! I never saw such a scene, how the Pontic mountains can look different !... The style of houses is also very unique (at least, seen from above), the weather too of course !
I like the fact that you included a person looking at the scene, great photo !

I think you captured this scene beautifully here. I love the man on the foreground grass, a view like this show how insignificant we humans are in the scheme of things. The clarity of the valley here is wonderful to see.

Merhaba Ali,
a good POV with the view down the steep slope. The inclusion of the person gives good sense of depth but also the impression that we as expectators of the shot are also there. Strong colors with good contrast almost all through the entire shot. The small exception is the sky that seems to be a touch of overexposed. The use of a ND grad filter might have helped out to avoid this.
