Ottoman fountain

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
At first I thought this is an old Ottoman fountain, but for a better explanation of what it really is, please see Mesut Bey's critique below. The photo was taken in Fener, Istanbul. From Lonely Planet:
"Fener, seat of the Ecumenical Orthodox Patriarchate, was once home to many powerful and wealthy Ottoman Greeks, while Balat was the home of many Istanbul Jews. Recently Unesco has offered grants to help restore these districts that harbour some of Istanbul's last remaining traditional residential streets." |

Hi dear Ryno !
Very nice capture, colorfull and fascinating. Very good compo.
But most fascinating side of this capture, it's an ottoman fountain (or seems to be) but it isn't !
The stone on the wall is the -so called- foot stone of an ottoman (women) gravestone. The basin is "kurna" which is part of every ottoman sytle bath house; where people pour in the water.
With other words this fountain is a pseudo fountain, but great idea. And a great applaus for the creator ! A piece which should be exhibited in a mordern arts exhibition !
TFS
and best regards
MESUT ILGIM

Great picture - I love the colour in these streets that you have captured so well. The 'pseudo' fountain seems perfectly in place with the grafitti wall etc. Good composition and framing.

So glad to hear that they are working to restore these 'works of art'. Very beautiful. It must be quite a feeling to walk threw this area. Very impressive. TFS
