This bridge links old Istanbul with Galata and Beyoglu over the Golden Horn. A bridge was planned during the reign of Bayezit II (148-1512) for which Michelangelo was contacted, but no project resulted.
In 1845, a wooden bridge was built here by the mother of Abdülmecit I, and this was later replaced with a metal one.
The present bridge was built by a German firm between 1910 and 1912. It is 468 ms. long and 26 ms. wide. The central section can be opened to allow ships to pass through into the Golden Horn shipyards. (usually at night, between 2 and 4 am.). It is situated at a nodal point the area between Eminönü and Karaköy having the densest traffic in the city. Looking over to old Istanbul, towards Eminönu from the bridge, one may see the Yeni mosque, and the monumental mosques dominating the skyline on the hills of the city.
Every mormimg hundreds of people come to fish from the bridge.

A very simple but graphic and nice photo.
The composition is perfect and the monochromatic colors really give a particular atmosphere to this scene.
Very well done !
