The eagle's nest

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| Classical view of the monastery of Sumela showing why it is considered as an eagle's nest. Here is a less classical point of vue. More detailed comments on that page too. In that previous page I mentionned the importance of the Treaty of Lausanne that was signed at the end of the GrecoTurkish War of 19191922. It was a war between Greece and the Ottoman Empire (to become Turkey) fought in the wake of World War I. With it an exchange took place between Turkish nationals of the Greek Orthodox religion established in Turkish territory, and of Greek nationals of the Muslim religion established in Greek territory. Almost all Greeks (including Turkish speaking Christian population in middle Anatolia), about 1.5 million, from Turkish Anatolia and Turkish Thrace were expelled or formally denaturalized, and about 500,000 almost all Turks (including Muslim population from Crete speaking a dialect based on Greek language with additional Turkish words, and Muslim Gypsies) were expelled from Greece. One point to remember, the leader of the Ottoman, Mustafa Kemal, who became the first President of the Republic of Turkey and best know as Atatürk (father of the Turks), did a lot of reforms to bring Turkey into modern age. I was told that he died too young as he was still planing major changes as allowing islamists to prey in Turkish instead of in Arab so people will understand the words in the prayer. Interesting location and very detailed description.
The photo is underexposed, probably because of cloudy sky. In such weather sky is much brighter than any object on the ground so it makes camera auto-exposure underexpose photos that have large areas of sky visible. In such weather it's worth using spot metering (if your camera has one), or set exposure compensation to +0.3 or 0.7 EV. However, I have tried to fix that in the workshop.
selamlar..
klasik bir surmele manastiri...
