nice photo...reminds me of a norman rockwell painting.
i like the texture/tone of this picture.
nice grainy colours.
i don't like the glare above the bald man's head.
otherwise, this is a masterpiece!

I don’t think ugly is a strong enough word for this photo! Just kidding. This is a great shot of everyday REAL life. Real life, that’s what I love about your photos, even if they are... well... ugly sometimes!

I love the split in two of this compo George. I mean not only is it split in two by the door frame but also by the mirror. Thats a fantastic detail that you got there which fills up the other half, which without it would simply be too empty and unbalanced.

the folks like you gave me that lesson: "photograph people", they are the real subject of photography;
could there be anything more valuable than this: nearly 30 years old treasure, with SUCH faces (look at their noses!), living their real life, as you say: talking, laughing etc.
and now look: every single detial in this photo counts: tiny, white curtain guaranteeing some symbolic (this time not real) intimacy, he bottles and other stuff prooving that this "barbiere" thing is a serious business, the towel hang on the chair - an evidence that there is some "traffic" in that shop, not just one client;
plus, man, there are TWO of them, two guys shaving ONE client, they do not do it just to get the iso norm in client service, do they?
tc, j.

What a poignant human document! The engrossed expression on the faces of the two standing men are incomparable. What might they be discussing? The sitting man's son's difficult wedding? Or did he just return from Pakistan where Gen Zia overthrew the civilian govt of Mr. Bhutto? Or could it be that he came back with news of riots in Cairo by the Takfir wa-l-Hijra ?
This image brings back those faraway days...

Hello George
This is excellent
it looks like a vintage National Geographic photo, the expressions of the people inside look even grotesque, the reflectionon the mirror is a masterdetail,
well done

Before there was USM, and increased saturation, and curves, and auto levels, and all sorts of other fun things - there were great photos like these that took us away to a foreign land and made us dream of what peoples lives must be like there. Instead of saying 'great DoF'
Cheers

I like how one of the men shows both directly and in the mirror, George, it helps create that "real people" atmosphere that you again captured so successfully here! The body language tells us that these men have known each other for a long time. No reason to stop your addiction to this type of photo. All you have to do is call it an "alternative lifestyle" instead of an "addiction", and you're set! Regards, Ken.

Witaj George,
Lovely shot of the barbershop with it's interesting details: the reflection of the barber or is he the critic?, the cracked mirror, the lace curtain, and the remnants of soap.
Regards, Pat
No witam! Kolega emigrant jakis? Musze powiedziec, ze ciekawa ta kolekcja!

Ech, chopie...Kazda nastepna twoja fotke ogladam z rosnacym przygnebieniem. Wszystko jest na Twoich fotkach naturalne, a ujecie ulicy pozornie tylko chaotyczne. W istocie swietnie wylapujesz rytm, na jaki sklada sie mnogosc detali. A dlaczego przygnebienie. Otoz mojke niesmiale proby wyjscia do ludzi z aparatem koncza sie tym, ze wracam do moich pejzazykow. Jakos nie wychwytuje tego poruszenia i intensywnosci widocznej w Twoich fotach. Well, whatever. Koniec kadzenia. Bardzo udana, trafiajaca do nbie praca. I co najwazniejsze cos tam pozostawia w moim mozdzku, bo juz trzeci raz ja dzisiaj otwieram. Pozdro.

No No No, You did so well to show us these vintage pictures. I am also a great fan of seeing places because everything changes so fast. Sometimes I can't believe I've shot places which are gone for good. You show us a barber shop, a picture that looks like the poster of a comedy, The Barber of Seville Turkish version , or let's put it as you did "The Barber of Kapali Çarşi" I wonder if the one with the moustache and thick eyebrows is still around.
Good and interesting shot George , many thanks - Izzet

OK, same comments again. I just noticed the theme pastadog has added this to. I've got a related one, my earliest shot on TE. I'd be interested to see one of yours in there.
Coś pięknego ! Trudno się napatrzyć. Ale klimat, ale uchwycone, ale zakomponowane. Świat ma więcej twarzy niż jest ludzi, bo istnieją szyby i lustra ;). Pozdrowienia T.

It was suprise for me when I see the date. It's only left a few that kind of barber shop in Istanbul but grand bazaar is same: Colourful, shiny and crowded. Great photo.
Thanks for sharing.

This shot is classic, the inclusion of the reflection is perfect... man, for a Pole in the 1970's, you got around(!!)... which was no easy feet... so which spy agency did you work for? Was one of these guys about to get a closer shave than he paid for?

Excellent, excellent this one ! I had the curiosity to look at your photos from Turkey : this is obviously my favorite ! Their grinning expressions, also in the reflection... Faces a bit like caricatures...
I wonder, or they are just listening to the "patient" in a friendly way, maybe a guy from the neighbourhood, or they are about to cut his throat - no, impossible, this happens in Istanbul !
Interesting very white teeth...
Great light, great... colours, really !
Intimistic atmosphere a la Goya (thinking of his sketches and engravings), I'm enjoying this tremendously, my biggest compliments !
Have a good weekend,
Amicalement,
Cath.
