In the province of Cappadocia, the volcanic rock, called "tufa" has eroded into these bizarre formations that look like giant mushrooms. The locals call them "Fairy Chimneys". When settlers arrived in Cappadocia, they dug cave dwellings into the soft tufa rock, creating entire villages carved into the Fairy Chimneys. This was taken in the village of Uchisar.

Nice photo Eva! I have been there in winter and colours were not that good at that time. But colours in this one is so nice. This looks like an old apartment to me actually. Thanks for sharing

Been there 15 years ago, and I can't find my photos, thanks for the reminder. A very good shot and i also like the colors, pale as they truely are. You may also put it under "Architecture", I guess, better than daily life,
Well done, Eva.

Quelle architecture ! Ca resemble aux maisons berbères en Tunisie. La prise de photo verticale est adéquate pour la photo et le rocher au dessus ajoute un détail interessant à la photo.

I have never seen any such thing. You make me travel and I like it. Beautiful colours, very interesting photo.
Je n'ai jamais vu rien de tel. Vous me faites voyager et j'aime cela. Belles couleurs, très intéressante photo.

Very nice soft colors. I would archive it under architecture.

I haven't seen people live like this before. What I am thinking - These dwellings seem hard to get in and out. Seem like ancient cave people with no water and electricity ready for use. Most important thing is how the children could play in such a place. Thank for the sharing. This photo got me thinking a lot :).

What a fantastic place, what a fantastic picture!!!! What fun to go there!
