Photographers Note
outskirts of the city... habitants are mostly immigrants from little villages... they come, settle on government property... they build a place without title of the land, without proper plan, without engineer, without city water sometimes, without electricity... with hope to find a job, to earn money, to feed their families..since it is illegal to build houses like these, they erect their houses over the night when there is less control... that is why in turkish we call these houses something like "night-landed"...

Interesting graphic result from this hillside residential area, the snow looks look on the rooves, and enhances the effect.

Hello Canan,
Very interesting photo and very well composed, I like the late fay light its very effective as well as the dark bblue sky.
I was surprised to see these so close to Ankara's center, while in Istanbul they are not obvious (i havent seen any maybe theya re more hidden)
Regards
Daniel

It's amazing the way they are perched on such a steep slope. The snow, and the colours and the distance make this actually look quite enchanting. From your description, I guess it's not as picturesque at ground level. Come to that, where is this shot taken from?! It's certainly a good angle.
My only suggestion is that a longer exposure may have reduced the graininess. Actually, given the fast exposure, there is remarkably little noise. You could probably get away with just NeatImaging (or blurring) the sky, and ignoring the rest. That would be my suggestion, anyway :)

Hi, Canan! Great pic, showing "the other side of the postcard"! You'll find identical places everywhere in Rio and in other brazilian cities. Nice composition, beautiful image and useful note. Congratulations! Miguel.

canan,
gecekondu muhabbeti ha,güzel bir açı yakalamışsın.ingilizce 'shack' kelimesi sanırım karşılar bizim gecekonduyu.
bir şeyi merak ettim, bunlar hep doğalgazla mı ısınıyor kaçak olmalarına rağmen, hiç soba dumanı yok etrafta, benim küçüklüğümde hava kirliliğinden göz gözü görmezdi hatırlıyorum.

Hi Canan,
Very interesting and moody picture. The low sunlight and the dark blue sky contrast amazingly.
Maybe a little too much noise in the air, but it doesn't bother me.

:))))) Did you meet Cengiz when he did his picture of theese? In your photo they realy look like a bunch of strange birds (UFO-s? :D ) that just landed on that hill. But what's funny is that although they have barely constructed those houses and have nothing inside, they dare painting them in green, bright blue, ochre, brown and I can even see an orange one!!!!!
The story is sad, of course...
Thank you for your kind words to my photos and I hope I'll see you soon!
BB
P.S.: I can feel you as realy close to me, so first I wanted to write you in Romanian, then I realised you can't understand it... :)

Hi Canan
Interesting shot of this shanty town. I was surprised at seeing so many of these places when I was in Turkey. You have captured a great scene here, and the night view delivers a great atmosphere. Well done.

Interesting note. I like how the buildings lay low close to the contours of the hill. Looks a little bit spooky in this light. Great photo of a unique place. TFS,
Roy

J'aime le contraste entre cette lumiere joyeuse et ce terrain sinistre, eboule, et qui suggere tant de pauvrete.
