Photographer’s Note
The picture is taken in Goreme, located not far from Avanos - the pottery centre of Cappadocia. The town is set on the banks of the Kizilirmak, meaning the Red River. The river gets its name from the clay that it deposits. This clay has provided Avanos with pottery for centuries and the town is still dominated by this industry.
Pots from Avanos are widely spread in the region and are used not only for practical purposes but for decoration as well.
