Balat was one certainly one of my favorite places to visit in Istanbul.
Once again a big thanks goes out to Deniz for showing us around the area as its a maze of steep streets, narrow passageways, and its easy to get lost.
This young boy was eager to have his photograph taken, and he was very patient with me too - what more could you ask for!
I wanted an angle that shows just how steep some of the streets are, and having the boy stand here helps with that. As you can see the lighting isn't the greatest, but you have to work with what you've got.
Hope you like it

Wacky angles, and a very cool result. I am dying to figure this out, with the way you have presented the scene, it seems so strange and nothing seems to be go the direction it should. Lke a very cool optical illusion with very cool local architecture to add to it. Nice one!
All the best

Today we are almost closest neighbours. I have a feeling this street isn't really as steep as you make it look, but it's a funny and inventive picture. I have enjoyed that area too, and actually managed to find my way out of there even without assistance. The boy looks like he enjoyed acting like some kind of spiderman.

Grimper et descendre ces rues très abruptes doit être très bon pour renforcer les mollets mais aussi une très belle opportunité de photos. Surtout lorsqu'on peut profiter d'un jeune sujet qui collabore.

Hi Craig, funny shot, as often, quite crazy perspective. I know how steep the streets are. Deniz guided us - two old ladies - up and down, and up and down.. I can't recognize this p[articular place, the houses here doesn't seem so old. Have you seen this old car in which I have a photo with Deniz )(sent it to you and it is in Facebook)? it seems that the boy had fun too. The light is very nice, with interesting shadows.

The street is so steep, and moreover with the deformation of your wide angle! good play!

love the way you see the world sometimes Craig. It is refreshing and so inspiring. This shot is clever and original with a captivating motive and of course your usual excellent quality and control. Like this one a lot!

Ha! Ha! Craig, the boy would have to be Spiderman to stand at such an angle without falling over! Despite that, you have given us a very original photograph, with lines converging in the sky rather than on the ground. You certainly achieve the intended objective of insinuating the steepness of the hills!
Have a lovely day,

What the ....? Very intriguing angle indeed to make your point about the steepness of the streets in this part of Istanbul. It is a truly fine composition with the houses getting smaller all the way up the street and the eager boy adding a good focal point to rest the surprised eye here.
have a great week

You took the shot from an incredible angle to get the desired effect from the wide angle lens.I like the composition as it shows a happy young boy and blown up house.TFS.

Oh man, this was just a big tease...I was expecting to see this young fella' actually suspended in air, your title is misleading!? :) This is the kind of street San Francisco would be proud of, what a steep one. I'm sure the wide angle put a little extra effect to the visual, but if you take a close look at the buildings themselves, there's still a good idea of the incline...or I guess, decline...depending on which direction your walking. lol
Glad you found someone so eager to become part of your picture, his presence, especially in the foreground is the perfect addition to welcome one to the neighborhood...especially with that big smile.
Yeah, that's some tough light, but you found a sweet middle ground, looks prety well balanced to my tired eyes. Hope this didn't incite the eventual vertigo. :o Enjoy the rest of the day. Have a good one up there.

Very nice capture from İstanbul's Balat, still resisting to modernity.

Interesting and very original view with this angle, a view well balanced and good light management between light and shades.

Very interesting way to show and demonstrate the steep streets of Balat. The houses are typical of this area and indeed find them in only a few locations in Istanbul. Even though majority of the picture is in shade, the exposure control is marvellous!
Have a great WE

A high impact shot taken from frog's low view point playing around a little with ultra wide angle distortion trying to really accent the lines - the perspective beauty that you have fully exploited to max. Clarity is superb and speck of vivid colours and the boy to clinch off nicely. Excellent shot, tfs
