If you need your shoes mended or shined, Turkey is the place to come, in most of the cities and places that we visited there were plenty of these hard working people.
The opening when your heart beats like a drum
The closing when the customers won't come
There's no business like shoe business
Like no business I know....

Nice capture of this -almost disappearing- craft in Adana.
In İstanbul they are quite rare but you can find them still in rural parts of the country.
This one is seemingly happy to be photographed.
TFS and have a nice weekend

This guy looks surprise a bit, or even startled Wanda, yet I find this as a great moment you managed to collect.
Looking beyond the shoemaker's face expression, I view indoor's of his workshop, and first noticed the flag, How patriotic. Than, must admit DOF is superbly collected, elements of his merchandise are shown in good clarity and light management inside the shop.
A fine daily-life photo, intriguing.
Enjoy your weekend,

A good street life shot and eye contact with this man
il a de la gueule cet homme !
J'aime bien aussi le titre avec le jeu de mots sur "show business"
Bon WE, amicalement

love this! A superb study of this cobbler. So much character and also so much to look at in this perfectly executed shot. Just wonderful imagery! Bravo!
Have a great weekend - B.

Love your punning title! And the photograph isn't bad either. Environmental portraiture at its best: although he's "posing" for you, this is still informal, and spontaneous. He's even kept the fag in his gob! And he hasn't been tempted (or allowed) to tidy up the environment, so we see the newspapers and other work-related detritus that adds an important element to the photograph. Good work.

This is a fine and amusing photo. There are so many interesting details to watch in this room that seems to be packed with the tools of the shoemaker's work. Although I dislike smoking I have to admit that the cigarette suits this man's face perfectly. The Turkish flag on the wall is a very typical detail in a place like this and I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was also a portrait of Atatürk somewhere.

Hello Wanda. A photo from the world of work. The shoe shiner has a tough job - but he is self-conscious. I like such realistic images rather than all artificiality. Photo and text complement each other perfectly. Overall a great shot.

Interesting subject, nice and low intimate view with valuable eye contact and smiles genially at being photographed while he waits for customers and so much care and attention being devoted to repairing that we would probably throw out without thinking. I love the wealth of detail you've captured here, his working materials are prominent around, evidence of optimism, but looks like difficult work and can just actually imagine how he goes about his work and what materials are used. The processing looks spot on, well balanced, the colours are great in a satisfying way without looking garish and the finish is spot on - peeking a glimpse into somebody's life and a real street shot I would be delighted to have taken this. Great works Wanda, Congrats and tfs

this is a superb photo, a strong portrait enriched with an immense amount of details. There's a marvelous distribution of information, a great sense of space. The diffused light and the well defined colours give a fascinating feeling of naturalness. The direct glance, the intriguing expression and the hand gesture of the gentleman make such a vivid impression. This portrait is like a short story, telling us -and enticing us to infer- a lot about his character, work and daily life. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
