Photographer's Note

Well, there is no urban planning in Istanbul, there cannot ever be one, as it has developed since two millenia without any plans and restrictions, rather according to the insticts of immigrants or the municipalities who sold the land to the construction companies giving the largest lump of money. And this photo is a proof of that. Actually i am not sure whether it is wise to present an ugliness in its full beauty, but this is how a part of new downtown looks like from the top of old Byzantian City Walls. The light is weird, it looks like a blue hour photo made in daylight. In fact it was partially cloudy and the "colorful" slums at the bottom had some fresh winter afternoon light on them, while the backdrop of the high rises was dark in shade.
