yes, i know of this feet cleansing ritual.
As a nurse, we often have pts of this religion who will want to wash their feet before going to bed.
Some nurses at work think its a weird behaviour, but they need to know its not weird at all, it cultural.
never seen a photo of it before though.
great idea to catch this man in the act of washing.
enjoy your weekend

You're capturing well this custom by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the spectacle in which the man took off shoes and has cleansed the feet. It is the custom for me to look at firstly. The whole is harmonized well by a good arrangement and tasteful color combination. And, the coat hung by the wall and the shoes placed on the floor draw out a good impact in this image.

Some places around our planet are not so tourists-friendly, Dawn, and you must had been very carful while sneaking behind people on their private moments...
Lucky you my dear. Anyway, managed nicely to show the moment, fine light and clarity collected.
have a nice week ahead,

Love the simplicity of the shot, a man getting about his daily routine taking ablution before praying and a true shot within the constraint revealing another perspective. Nice display of natural colours, its delicate detail at low light with all the props thrown in, and bit of intimate and serene so to speak makes this look so intriguing, also ensuring that we never miss all the little features there. A beautiful image well spotted moment timely taken as he strikingly stands out in the settings.
The only thing that I find distracting sincerely and I know it's only tiny thing and that's the severe sharpening on the lower part of his body and shoes. But this does not distract from the overall picture. Honestly that's the only negative comment I have, others are just flawless. It's a splendid photo works and credit to your skill and technique. Well done, Congrats

you've got some terrific shades and contrast in this shot, I do like the effect. And the moment you captured the man..wow, you and Gus are two pro reporters:)
That coat hanging on the wall is such a great detail too.
Have a great week!

Hi, dear Dawn,
this one is a very usual scene in any mosque in Istanbul, and you have caught it skilfully.
The man cleansing his feet, in a religious ancestral tradition, before to enter to pray inside the mosque, is a very spontaneous image, in this vital, beautiful and simple composition.
A nice work.
Hugs for you and for Gus,
Pili & Josep

Different cultures have different ways of doing things, sometimes it's hard to understand but understand we must and should learn something from them. I have an opportunity to live in a culture that is different from my upbringing and I am taking the best of both. TFS.

Première fois que je vois cette scène en image, mais je connaissait ce rituel de propreté des pieds, très grand format, peut être un peu trop....mais un bon moment capturer

Such scenes were part of everyday life when I lived in Turkey, so I did not even notice them. Now that I have lived in a country where this is not a common sight, I can see why one might want to photograph it. Do I detect a hint of HDR in this photo? I like what you have done with this scene. The slight tilt gives it an interesting angle, which made me wonder how an even larger angle of tilt might look. I played with this image to give it a 5-degree CCW tilt and was satisfied with the result. I will upload it to the workshop to see what you think.
Thanks for such a simple and simply pleasant reminder of home!

I was a bit silent during past days (without Internet-lot of traveling); just yesterday I came back from my Kerala trip, and it was excellent. My silence is broken. I've already started posting photos from this trip.
Thank for the invitation, I'd love to see you and Gus (and also Lisa) during my next trip to your exciting city; but I don't know when.
I like the composition of this photo with the man concentrated on his washing procedure, the pair of shoes next to him and the hanging jacket.
The light is very good. The vertical framing works well here.

An unusual and interesting image. And all the more so because it has meaning. Well seen and well captured. Maybe a little oversharpened but very good as is. The near-monochromatic colour fits the theme very well. Best wishes.

The sharpness and texture of the photograph is awesome. The worn out old marble slabs make the overall background almost surreal. The black shoes with stamped heels, the posture of the man with foot raised, the hanging coat - give the man an identity - a character.
There is so much life and deep ritualism in this photograph - almost to the extent of sacredness & piety.
Thanks for sharing.

curiously few minutes ago I was walking in the countryside and it was raining and my shoes were full of red clay and it was necessary to wash them in the water before to enter in my home. haha.
very nice detail of the daily life in this area of the world. the light and sharpness are excellent.

A very common scene there!I like a lot the way you framed it: the man washing his feet, the coat, the shoes... The textures of the marble are just great and I like the contrast. A very good shot!
