This is the Blue Mosque - one of the most famous monuments of Turkish and Islamic art, the mosque is visited by most who visit Istanbul. I took this picture from the north, on the Hagia Sophia side, with my position roughly between these two famous monuments.
Although it is popularly known as the Blue Mosque, its real name is Sultan Ahmet Camii or Mosque. Befitting his original profession, its architect Mehmet Aga decorated the interior fastidiously like a jeweler. Built between 1609-1616, the mosque used to be part of a large complex, including a covered bazaar, Turkish baths, public kitchens, a hospital, schools, a caravanserai, and the mausoleum of Sultan Ahmet. Some of these social and cultural buildings have not survived to our day.
The architect was a student of Sinan, the greatest architect of classical Turkish architecture. He applied a plan used previously by his master, but on a larger scale.
This imperial mosque is an example of classical Turkish architecture, and it is the only mosque that was originally built with six minarets. The minarets of the mosque are classical examples of Turkish architecture. The domes and the minarets are covered by lead, and at the top of the minarets there are standards made of gold-plated copper. Master craftsmen repair these coverings very skillfully when needed.
It is said in Istanbul that Blue Mosque is the place where the land meets the sky in a peaceful harmony.

Nice picture, I like the satured colors and the contrast between the mosque and the sky.
I imagine your picture well better without the frame and the included legend, your picture is reduced to a postcard.
I would get ride of the lateral fence too.
Nevertheless a very good picture.
Enjoy your day,

Namaste Angshuman. You got me totally disoriented here. I thought that the madrasa was on the left as one walks from Hagia Sofia towards the Blue Mosque along the paved path and the lawns are on the right.Nicely lit by the sun against a dull sky. Lots of details. Regards. Klaudio.

The presence of the people has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing the details and colours of the Blue Mosque. The good luminosity is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.

hi dear Angshu,
great shot of the famous Blue Mosque. Good idea to include this diagonal road with people. superb composition. How I like these pencil-like minarets, so typical for ottoman architecture. I like the script in title, mimicking Arabic.
You asked about my travel plans: in September I go to France and in October to... Istanbul!

Istanbul is on the top of my list of cities I would like to see. I am so jealous. Beautiful capture here. I like the light and colors as well as the processing which emphasized them and the details. Very original POV with including of some daily life context which brings this spectacular architecture down to the earth. I just regret that you did not correct the perspective but I see the angle would not allow you to do that. As wide as it is, it would not be wide enough.
Excellent work nevertheless,

A mesmerising view which is perfect to keep the eye into perspective with wonderful immense details and the splendour of this magnificent architecture. The casted warm light and contrast against brilliant blue is so remarkable and I love the sense of depth and people interaction. A simply striking picture. Congrats.

Hagia Sofia, thanks for bringing back sweet memories. It seems no big changes expect the high inflation. Dark blue sky vs the Hagia Sofia in plain sunlight, this contrast is amazing. Excellent photo job

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
a beautiful view on the Sultan Ahmet Mosque, under a deep blue sky.
I love its wonderful architecture, its elegant shapes and its slender minarets, which stands out on the ensemble.
I admire your good management of the light and the high quality of the colours.
A great work.

Nice to hear from you and to know that we visited the same place just months apart. To answer your question, we took the Rainbow Balloons and it is a 24 pax per basket for a 1 hr ride.
As for this shot of the Blue Mosque, the high contrast really brought out the shape and form of this famous building to really project its beauty and grandiosity. You have successfully tamed the strong sunlight judging from the shadows. When I was there I was also told that to take a good shot of this mosque I must be able to see all the six minarets. Just wonder if you were told about this too. Lovely shot!!!
