Photographer’s Note

Evlerden uzak olsun.

Mardin Castle is situated on top of the hill that overlooks the houses in the old city and the plains down below. It is very old and in a dilapidated condition. Rocks often fall on the houses below. Therefore, tourists and busses are not allowed. It is still military zone and houses a radar that is not in use anymore. Now the borders are mutually opened with Syria, there is perhaps no longer any need for it anyway.
The black shirts blowing in the wind and the sunset that glows in only one window of the castle reminded me an old film of Taviani Brothers; le Notte di San Lorenzo. I was sure it would look good photographically but now, I am not so sure.
