Ana cadde üstünde Şehidiye Medresesi’inin tam karşısında yer alan konak, Mardin'in en ünlü mimarlarından Mimarbaşı Lole tarafından 1890 yılında önde gelen Şahtana ailesi için inşa edilmiş. Mardin’deki en büyük U planlı evlerden biri olan bu aile konağı iki katlı ve güneydeki kapıdan giriliyor. Konağın her köşesinde ince bir taş işçiliği dikkati çekiyor. 1930’ların sonlarında Memleket Hastanesi, daha sonra Palas Otel olmuş. 1953’te de Şahtanalar’dan satın alınan konak PTT tarafından kullanılmaya başlanmış.

A real masterpiece of the local head architect Lole. Built in 1890 as a family residence for the prominent Sahtana family of Mardin, the house was later used as a hospital, a hotel and finally, in 1953 bought from the family and became the central post office. The intricate stonework all around the building is spectacular. It is one of the largest family houses in the city with a U shape plan. All the living quarters and terraces on both storeys overlook the main courtyard which is separeted from the main street with high walls and a huge entrance.
