Photographer’s Note
Şanlıurfa presents stark contrasts between its old and new quarters. The old town is one of the most evocative and romantic in Turkey, with an ancient bazaar still visited by local people to buy fruit and vegetables, where traditionally dressed and scarfed Arab and Kurdish villagers arrive in the early morning to sell their produce. Much of the old town consists of traditional Middle Eastern houses built around courtyards, invisible from the dusty streets, many of which are impassable to motor vehicles. In the narrow streets of the bazaar people scurry to and fro carrying trays of food, which is eaten on newspapers spread on low tables in a corner of the little shops, many people drinking water from the same cup. This very oriental atmosphere is bewitching but below the surface parts of the old city are very poor indeed, with people still living in cave houses (built into the side of the rock).
Şanlıurfa's newer districts meanwhile, are a sprawl of modern concrete apartment blocks, with many surprisingly tidy leafy avenues, containing modern restaurants, sports facilities and other amenities with air-conditioning, a refuge from the roasting summer heat.

Sen bu saatte nasil fotograf koydun? Aman aman susiiim de nazarim degmesin trafiksizligin daim olsun.
Uc kapi gorunce, aklima senin soyledigin "uc" kompozisyonlari geldi ve basamaklarin da uc tane oldugunu fark ettim. Tesaduf mu? Sanirim :)
Ucten cok maviler hosuma gitti ama benim. Fotografin her pikselinde mavilik var, soldaki kapinin etrafindaki duvarda, basamakta, adamin arkasindaki duvarin catlaginda (catlak deyince aklima Ceki geldi ehehe), kapi numaralarinda...
Blue door-ation demek istiyorum izninle.

Cool blue blur, Deniz. A very attractive composition with, needless to say, a bold and intriguing palette of colors. I think I might have tried to correct the barrel distortion from the wide angle lens a bit, but otherwise the image quality is superb. You have a steady hand. Best, -Hugh

You like the reddish tones, I love the blueish tones.
This photo is great, especially with your touch of "Denizm". Means a mix of dynamic and static.

i'm so happy and motivated by this photo to go tomorrow to the east of the country and to search for "the orient" of my place...
you seemingly went for a fabulous trip to the "orient of turkey" if i may call it, and the finding seems like a great maghreb place with the touch of a typical blue flavor...
addition of the motion blur is adorable...
overall - a fascinating "story"...
best,

Senin fotograflarin Urfa'yi daha cok merak etmeme neden oldu. Mardin'den daha renkli bir yere benziyor. Ben orada bu kadar carpici renkler gormedim. Bu uc kapi bulmaca gibi. Hangisini sececeksin, arkasindan ne cikacak? Lady or the tiger? :))

Meraba Deniz,
Rengarenk kapıları bulmuşken kaçırmamışsın, hareket halindeki figür "kendini 20 kilo fazla gösterdiğin" için sana dava açabilir, bilemiyorum yani :)) Figürün aktif hali ve kadrajdaki yeri de gayet dengeli, ellerine sağlık..

hi deniz
It's a truly captivating post.I think the composition has gained a lot from the blurred man passing by, There is a aspect in your works that I love: the extreme care for composition and colors, and this is another proof,

The title is even better than the shot itself and demonstrates again that half of the work here at TE is the right inspiration in how to present the art.

This is one of your best shots! I think that you brought your person-passing-by-concept to perfection. What I admire here is the composition of your frame. I like it a lot and added it to my favorites. I think I’ll try to imitate the style of this one – perhaps in a sokak of a Greek island, which look a bit like the place above.
Cheers

Deniz, definetely one of your best of your last shots in my eyes. More life, and movement, and very beautiful colors. The passing man has a true presence, the blue colors are eye-catching. Very nice title too:-)))
A bit of vertical distorsion.
Have a lovely weekend.
Your intro has become so minimalistic. Any particular reason ? :)
Kind regards

Great air of mystery here which is increased even more by the intruder. THe colours are really beautiful. ITs too bad when I went there 9 years ago I hadnt developed a photographic eye and I must have missed many opportunities.

This picture could also have been taken in India ! Very powerful with its different kinds of blue, the picture also has a good composition, that seems to illustrate your interesting note. The old walls in contrast with the modern life. The guy that emerges from the left corner, could symbolize the intrusion of the speed and modern way of life in the more sleepy and timeless lifestyle of the old city.
Congratulations,
Marine

Hi Deniz
I like this one. The colors are beautifull on the doors, but the best is the shade of the man created by the low speed.
Excellent

I like the title. Olá Deniz, is this the most interesting thing to see in Sanliurfa? :)) Of course not, but after we see the 'most interesting things', this is what we like to discover in cities - the backstage that most guide books don't refer...So many diferent doors here - that blue one in the center is quite intriguing. It seems like a not so reachable wardrobe. The local ghost passes by in a rush - he can run, but he can't hide from your camera. I 'adore' this one :D

Hi Deniz,

Really nice !
