When in Kas I did a day tour using local buses to and from Demre otogar (bus station). Rather than walk 2 km there and back I hired a taxi to Myra which has a good ancient theatre, these incredible Lycian rock tombs in an ancient Necropolis, and the St Nicholas Museum and tomb of Santa Claus, (St Nicolas) although his earthly remains were taken to Bari in Italy.
Shot with a 46 mm lens.
From Wikipedia: "There are two necropoli of Lycian rock-cut tombs in the form of temple fronts carved into the vertical faces of cliffs at Myra: the river necropolis and the ocean necropolis. The ocean necropolis is just northwest of the theater. The best known tomb in the river necropolis (located 1.5 km up the Demre Cayi from the theater) is the "Lion's tomb,"also called the "Painted Tomb."
This must be the ocean necropolis, although it is now several km from the sea with silting by the river over the centuries. Every single tomb has been broken into and robbed of anything of value or interest. Lara Croft is way too late here!

The tight frame is poutting the tombs in evidence. The point of view is showing with precision the details and the colors of the tombs. The good luminosity is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

This is almost incredible that people this can build, very long time ago, this for their loved ones to bury.
Composition and presentation are very well.
Sharpness and clarity make this picture attractive.
Very well done, TFS.

this place looks amazing. A fascinating image and commentary to accompany it. The sort of place that gets inside your imagination and of real historic significance. Captured and presented perfectly. Wonderful!

The ancient necropolis is depicted in great detail. The tight framing works well and the image benefits from good colours and clarity.

Finalement, j'ai raté beaucoup plus de choses que j'en ai vu pendant mes brèves escales en Turquie. De là le fait que je déteste les voyages organisés. Quelle splendeur creusée dans la montagnes où on voit de très belles architectures

Hello Chris ,
Excellent capture of this amazing place . The dark Windows provide good contrast to the light tonalities of the rocks .

Good evening Chris,
An amazing built cemetery onto the rock, with some of the entrances decorations that well preserved through times.
Good light upon, on time taken, made the colors stand-out in contrast with the dark parts.

Quite extraordinary place showing ancient traditions. There literally is one tomb on top of another. Interesting variations on stone colours and dry and fresh grasses.

Ahh here they are up close and in daylight. Nice tight cropping allows us to examine the details as well as concentrate on the graphism created by the open windows. I like the muted colours and good contrasts/ Well done.
Thanks for sharing, I'm in mourning over here after the repeal of the carbon tax...sigh

Never see or imagine something like this tombs, they are in a way similar at Mogao tombs but without stairs
An estrange place, more if in the past it overclocked the sea, must be so silent
Very well done, photo and note
*Congrats for your knowledge about Evita and yes she is with a microphone, a reproduction of her famous photo, taken at this same place, the moment she resign to political activities because she was dying

Just like the Native Americans cliff dwellings I would guess that protection from the enemy, even in death, is important to the people. Great pov and dof with nice details. Very well done, tfs.
