Photographer's Note

Another view of the incredible ceiling frescoes made from tiles, on the roof of the Chora Museum in western Istanbul. It was first a Byzantine Church, then an Ottoman Mosque but is now a museum. This is by no means the only outstanding section of the building. There has been some damage from numerous earthquakes over the centuries, and the practice of covering religious icons and images by Muslims in the distant past, similar to the Amish today who shun photographs. On a positive note, a lot of the artwork has been painstakingly repaired.

Flash and tripods are forbidden so handheld with available light.
