Another view of the incredible ceiling frescoes made from tiles, on the roof of the Chora Museum in western Istanbul. It was first a Byzantine Church, then an Ottoman Mosque but is now a museum. This is by no means the only outstanding section of the building. There has been some damage from numerous earthquakes over the centuries, and the practice of covering religious icons and images by Muslims in the distant past, similar to the Amish today who shun photographs. On a positive note, a lot of the artwork has been painstakingly repaired.
Flash and tripods are forbidden so handheld with available light.

Bon cadrage de cette fresque dorée d'où semble partir la lumière.

I am really impressed how well you were able to capture this detail with a poor light condition inside. It looks extremely good at your image -- all details and tones are very well executed. I like also the composition and cropping which makes the scene so attractive and eye catching. Well done.

Good Morning Chris,
I can imagine what a thrill it is to see these wonderful frescoes. I have seen them on tv but that doesn't touch the spot like the reality of the scene.
You have composed this shot so that the radiating, golden grooves look like an extended halo. It is utterly beautiful, sharp and with fine use of light.
My warm regards,

Wondeful ceiling view. Splendid warm colors you captured. The sharpness, clarity and lights superbly managed.

A breath taking capture. What a work of art, and the artistry is very similar to the churches I saw in Sicily, with the Christ Pantocrator in almost the exact pose and design. You did superbly in the available light, delivering a beautifully sharp and beautifully lit photo.
Have a great Sunday

The tight frame is putting that area of the ceiling in evidence. The point of view is showing the details and colours of the ceiling. The surrounding light has a good effect on the colours. Have a nice day.

J'aime beaucoup la construction de cette image. Les dorures ressortent très bien grâce à la netteté de l'ensemble.

a wonderful rendering of the characteristic religious architecture and art, you've surpassed the restrictions and challenges of shooting in an admirable way. Your framing has originality and has invigorated the view with the dynamism it has offered it. Depth and sharpness are excellent, the art and its colours are fascinating. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

The details are wonderful. The finesse of the mosaic art has to be seen to be believed. Good off-centre framing...maybe using some 'curves' would bring out the contrast better. But nice work!
